works, and the typography ODeqnalled.
Oregon Sttle. California papers ever
now and then refer, in rather contemptu
ous term, to the "Oregon style of journal
ism," as if it was not equal to the Califor
nia style. From what we have seen of
California journalism we are inclined to
the opinion that if" said journals wonld copy

Change of Base. It was resolved on
Saturday night to discontinue the meetings
at the Court House, toi this week at least,
giving way to the Woman Suffrage Associ
ation, and hold meetings each night in two
of the churches ot the city, hoping thus to
keep up a good feeling among all classes
and accommodate every 'one desirous of
aiding in tlie good work that has been go
ing on for weeks past.
Gone to California Rev. Robert L.
Stevens, pastor of tlje Episcopal church of
this city, accompanied by his wife, an in
valid, started for California Saturday last.
This sudden removal was "made necessary
by the alarming change In Mrs. Steven's
condition during the latter part of the
week. We hope that a change of climate
may prove beneficial, and that Mrs.
Stevens may soon be able to return in re
newed health.
Goi.fi Diggings. Placer mines ,f iave
been located, by one or more parties now
in this . eity, near Qtiartzville, recently.
Very little prospecting was done, but -in
that little good indications, sufficient to in
duce old miners to stake off claims, were
found. In a few days parties will leave
this city tor the new diggings, and we shall
soon know whether they will pay or not.
Coming Back. Late news received from
Joe Tyler I to the effect that Mrs. Tyler
had not been benefitted by the change of cli
mate, from Oregon to California, as had been
hoped, bot rhat she' wafs Very moch worse ;
so mffeh so, indeed, that it was thought
better to return to Oregon again as soon as
possible.

of an exciting chase after a deer, fn which
Hon. W. F. Owens and another gentleman
followed tho buck over the rapids of ther
