Arnolp. rresideat, . -- Socretarv. Albany, J"u!y S8, 1876nk OREGON, DECEMBER 22: 1876. OFrlCIAL CITY: PAPER ALUAXY, ' OREGON,.', DEC, 22t 1870. JiEFOliM"' NEQESSAJIY.- " Tlie Democracy went into the late canvass liowlincr for "relorm," iloclarinw that the immense burden ot taxation fastened upon tlie people was eating out their very vitals finil hail become too grievous to bo borne ! . They entirely ujnoreil the fact that the leiiiocratic parly, and the Democratic party alone, was chargable for this great burden, arid went lieiore the people pleading for votes for tie Democratic standard beai ere, asserting that (in the face of the history of the past), it was the party of "reform !". And to prove more clearly its right to be considered the "reform party, it immediately engaged, not only in wholesale intimidation of voters wherever it was cousidered safe, but iit perpetrating the most gigantic frauds, ballot-box stuffing, repeating, etc., ever witnessed in any country ; they attempt through their courts -and Democratic Clovernors'to sot aside the will of the people, and declare a minority candi date elected, and issue certificates of election to parties who have not the slightest right to them, and then throat ed to "die in the last ditch" if any ot their outrageous acts of usurpation and fraud are examined into. This is the "reform" Democracy which, by its murders, destroying ballot-boxes, rack ing false returns and committing other outrages against the laws and peace of the country, has necessitated the ap pointment of committees, and 'the sum monsing of scores cf witnesses from diflerert parts of tlie country, at a cost of hundreds of thousands of dollars to be added to the already burdensome debt fastened upon the Nation by it a fe v years ago. For the truth of these charges we refer to the record of the Democratic party which is now being made up. Will the patriotic, Union loving, God fearing men of this'corm try further tolerate and by their votes sustain such a party ? We think not. "THE ItCMI DEMOCRATIC SXEAKS." As showing the high estiination(?) in which the Democracy of the North in hejd by the Democracy of the South, we quote the above as one of the 'pet" expressions of the latter when referring to the former! The Southern people always claimed to be the "head and brains" of the Democratic party ; and now in their disgust and contempt for their Northern allies, who are "invinci ble in peace and invisible' in war," they style them the "rump Democratic sneaks !" The appropriateness of this characterization, as applied to the Northern Democratic politicians, will be seen at once. Our contemporary occupies the same position to the "rump" that the cork does to the bottle ! ; ' XOT A Z ASSOCIATE FOIt GEXTEEMEX. The infamous part enacted by Grover and those who rule over him, at Salem, not only meets with the condemnation of the honest citizens of Oregon, but he and they are receiving the . condemna tion ot the honest press everywhere. An outspoken, independent journal of California has this to say in thematteri "How much does Lafayette Grover make by the political swindle, which he has practiced upon the people of , Ore gon and ot the United States? . Will he ever be recognized as a fit associate for gentlemen, even in his own party ? If not, he will curse the day when lie sacrificed his plain legal duty to satisfy the demands of rabbid partisans. The proverb says that though men may love the treason they hate the traitor ; and Grover will learn its truth.' Six mining deeds on the ledge of the great IJonanza (mud springs) on Camp creek, in Wasco county, have been re coided, ii the clerk's office in The Dalles, ..- . ' : Frank Knnis, superintendent of the English Company at Galice creek, re ports a scarcity ot s water for working the mines, they having only 150 inehes in the ditch. , ; , . . ; : The Caledonian mine on Isthmus Slough, is opened ami will be ready to ship coalsoou. This is claimed to be as good a ruhie as there is on Coos Bay. VIE TV A LL T ACKXO WLEDQJZS ,TIIE CHARGE OF' T,ltlBEItY , , The chief organ of the: Democracy of Oregon threatens, that 'if publicans persist ia presenting the proofs in their possession ot GroverV :gllilt'a : briber, it ' will ' blast' forever the reputation cf leading men in the liepnblicaii party This is the old, old storyof "stop thief!" ; IJut these .Democratic politi cians of Oregon, disciples pt those great est of thieves and liars, Tweed-Tildci may as well learn now that for all time hereafter threats of any; kind, coming from them, will scare iib'oiie, ,nTiieir threats of inaugurating bloody war un less Tildon is . elected, president 'fell stiHbrfni tni . the atf fKepublieaiw, and only excited the derision "of the leaders ot the Democratic, party of the Souths who characterizo the Northern Democrats as "rtimp sneaks !" '" 'Dut the most astOnisl)tn2-thin2,to Ue-. publicans as well as : Democrats, is the virtual acknowledgment of the orgSn that Grover is guilty of briberies. It has always been the custom of Demo cratic journals to deny all allegations against partisans, both before and after the charges were : established. ; Ilaring this one instance, Democratic, papers during the late canvass have almost universally followed this course aid a majority, if not all, of them are still keeping up their lick ! Tlie organ de clares that if yon prove "bribery" and "corruption" against Gov. Grover, and thus throw him out of the U. -S. Senate and into the .penitentiary, it will pro. ceed at once to show up similar cases o bribery in the Ilepublican party ! If the organ knew of any such cases, it was its duty, as an honest guardian of the people's interests, to have preseuted the facts and had the parties brought to justice. As it has not done it, all hou- est men will believe that it has not now, and never has had, any such evi dence but it hopes by such threats and insinuations to create a belief in the public mind that other parties are equally gui'ty in those matters, with the Democracy, and thus lighten the fall 'which is sure to overtake Grover. ' " MORE- DEMOCRATIC REFORM. ! This great "lieform Democratic" party has brought another burden' upon tlie Nation. By it,s attempts to over ride the will -of the people, possibly through tho orders of Tiiden, in this State at Salem on the Gth inst., it has necessitated the summoning of a large number of witnesses to Washington City, at an expense ot thousands of dollars to" tlie people of this Nation. The leaders of the Democratic party in Oregon, by this outrageous attempt at fraud upon the people have covered themselves with obloquy, and brought an otherwise needless expense upon the Nation, adding thousands of dollars, to the already heavy burdens of the peo ple ; andj this in addition -to the State debt of nearly one million dollars which Grover leaves the people to pay ' LOCAL MATTERS.
