Thanksgiving Fair. The Ladles Aid
Society has received so many calls, during
the last few weeks, for aid, that the treas
ury is prety well exhausted. As a means

may still be able to assist the needy, the

Sad. Mr. J. G. Anderson, aged abou$
23 year, died early on Saturday morning,
alter a short illness. Although a resident
of this r,Hy but a short time, by his urban
ity and gonllemanly deportment, he had

know, the only relative he had in this
country was a brother," about 18 yeara of
age, who arrived here from Missouri a few

In 1S47 lie crossed the plains, arriving in
Oregon in the fall of that year and settling
in Linn county, where he has resitted ever
since. Deceased was elected and served
two terms acceptably Injthe Oregon Terri
torial Legislature, A good man has gone
to his ret. .Deceased leaves a wife and
eight grown-up children to mourn his loss

Club Meeteno. The Hayes and
Wheeler Club met at tile Court House last

Oregon, "the speech was one of the best
delivered during the campaign, and was
received with unbounded enthusiasm, by

ly unanswerable, and produced a marked
etfet-f upon the aud'ence for good. Our
next Congressman, Dick Williams, was
present, and was loudly called for ; but
owing to the lateness of the hour he did

Williams and Lnfe Lane, was entirely a
one-sided affair,' Mr. Williams being per
