Engine Company. Xo. 2.

The officers of this Company Khali be a
President, Recording Secretary, Financial
Secretary, Treasurer, Foreman, First As
sistant Foreman and SeconcJ Assistant
Foreman, to bo elected annually, at the
first regular meeting in September of each
year, who shall serve until their successors
are elected and installed.

No person shall be elected Si member of
liis Company who is under the age of
twenty-one j ears, or resides outside of the
corporate limits of Albany.
ARTICLE J V.
All candidates lor membership in this
Company shall be proposed by a member
thereof at any meeting, fire or drill. The
member making or offering the proposi
tion, shall state the name, age, occupation,
and residence of the persou proposed,
wbicli proposition shall be accompanied by
the sum of one' dollar ; said proposition
shall be banled to the Investigating Con
niittec. and the a foresaid sum to the Fi
nancial Secretary which sum shall be Con
sidered the initiation fee of the candidate if
elected, to be returned to him it rejected.
ARTICLE v. -
All candidates shall be elected by ballot,
and if not more than Jive black ballots ap
pear in the box after the ballot, be shall be
declared electee? ; bht it more than Jtce are
deposited he shall be declared rejected ;
Provided, one re-ballot may be taken, upon
a motion being made, and sustained by
two-thirds of the members present ; but
no candidate shall be balloted for unless be
shall have been reported favorably to the
Company by the Investigating Committee.
ARTICLE VI.
All officers of this Company shall be
subject to impeachment and trial for im
proper conduct, or incompetency, at the
written request of six members of the Com
pany ; and with the concurrence of two
thirds of those present, shall be removed
from office ; Provided, that no officer shall
be so tried and removed without a bearing.
ARTICLE VII.
If any member shall absent himself from
three successive fires ; or neglect three reg
ular meetings ; or neglect or refuse to pay
his fines or dues lor three months ; or use
instilling language to an officer; or be
gmlty of destroying or defacing, or appro
priating to bis own use, any property be
longing to the Company ; or if be shall be
guilty of conduct which, in the opinion of
the Company, renders him an improper
associate, be may be expelled from the
Company ; Provided, he shall first be noti
fied by the Secretary, and have an oppor
tunity to be heard.
ARTICLE VIII.
At the regular meeting in May of each
year, three Delegates to the "Albany Fire
Department" shall be elected frcm the
Company.
ARTICLE IX.
Tiie By-Laws, hereinafter adopted by
this Company, shall be equal and binding
with the Constitution, and no amendment
shall be made to either, unless proposed in
writing, at a reyvlar meeting, aud laid over
until the next regular meeting, and con
curred in by two-thirds of all the members
I present.
BY-LAWS.
; ARTICLE I.'
Meetings. The regular .meetings of this
Company shall be on the first Monday of
each mouth, from the 1st ot November
to the 1st of May at 7 o'clock p. M., and
during the remainder of the jrear at 7:30
o'clock P. M. Twelve members shall con
stitute a quorum to transact business, and
unless in the Constitution or By-Laws
otherwise provided,' a majority stiall gov
ern. ; j ARTICLE II.
Ditties of Officers President. The Presi
dent shall preside at all meetings ; preserve
order ; conduct all meetings in coniormity
with parliamentary usage ; see that the
Constitution and By-Laws are strictly en
forced ; sign all orders aud checks ordered
by the Company and drawn by the Secre
tary upon the Treasurer ; call special meet
ings when necessary, or when requested in
writing by ix members of the Company.
! i ARTICLE III.
Secretary It shall be the duty 61 the Re
cording Secretary to kep a correct roll of
the names of the member ot the - Compa
ny, and to call the same after every alarm
of fire or' regular tTrill, or other duty of
the Company, immediately after housing
the Egbne, and at every regular meeting.

the President at next regular meeting ; to
keep a true account ' of all proceedings, to
take charge of all books, papers and' docu
ments, and to conduct the correspondence
of the Coropifny, Under the supervision of
the President ; to notify all those elected
to membership in the Company, within
three days thereafter, and to notify the
members of all special meetings. Also to
keep a book of Fire Records iu which he
shall note the date of each fire, its loca
tion, and such other remarks as may be
i useful to the Department, the names 61

fires. He shall also keep in the minutes
of each regular meetingthe names ot those
present and absent, and appropriate in
dexes to said "Fire Record" and Minute
book Of said.uieetings.
' ARTICLE IV.
Financial Secretary. It shall be the duty
of the Financial Secretary to collect, and
keep a true account of all moneys due the
Company and pay the same over' to the
Treasurer, together with' a written state
ment of tiie nature of the amount received,
taking the Treasurer's receipt for the same;
to keep till books,'papers and documents in
his possession ready for inspection by the
President, Finance Committee, or a com
mittee appointed for the purpose, at all
times, and to deliver the same to his suc
cessor in office; and at every annual meet
ing of the Company for the election of offi
cers, he shall present a full report of all
business appertaining to his office from the
commencement of his fefm:
ARTICLE Y. ' '
Treasurer. The Treasfarer shall take
charge of all funds belonging to the Com
pany; and give such security for the faith
ful performance of his duties as may be
from time to time requtred by the Com
pany ; report at each quarterly meeting,
orottener if called upon by the Company,
the amount of money received and dis
bursed by him ; pay all bills or checks
drawn upon him fcnd signed by the Secre
tary and President ; and perforin such
other duties as may be imposed upon him
by the Compntiy.
ARTICLE VI.
Foreman. It shall be the duty of the
Foreman to take command of the Compa
ny at all times ; to see that the Apparatus,
Hose, rintl everything appertaining tliereto.
be kepC in good order and repair ; to' see
that every officer and member performs
his duty ; to secure the services of a com
petent Engineer and such assistants as may
be necessary leaving the compensation of
Engineers to be determined by the Com
pany. He shall have power to appoint a
Steward whose duty, under the supervision
of the Foreman, shall be to keep the En-
pine, Engine House and Hall ready tor
use and occupancy of the Compapy, aud
who shall receive such compensation for
said service as the Company shall determ
ine.
ARTICLE VII.
First Assistant Foreman It shall be the
duty of the First Assistant Foreman to aid
the Foreman iu the discharge of his duties,
to take special charge c'f tho Engine and
appurtenances, to keep them in good order
and repair, subject to the Foreman, and
when ou duty to have immediate charge of
the Engine and Engine-men, and in the
absence of the Foreman to assume his offi
cial duties, and to call the Second Assist
ant to the post which he vacates. He shall
also have power to nominate, with the ap
proval of the Compauy,four "Suction Hose
Men" and four "Tongue Men."
ARTICLE VTJ1.
Second Assistant Foreman. It sliall be
the duty of the Second Assistant Foreman
to take charge of the "leading hose,'" and
he sliall appoint, with the approval of the
Company,' sixteen "Leading Hoseroen,"
who shall rank in the order of tlieir ap
pointment ; aud in the absence of the
Foreman and First AsaUtnTnt he shall have
command.
ARTICLE IX.
Pricate M'M-ers. No member or officer
shnll disclose, to any person, the manner
of his vote on any matter ; nor to any per
son outside of the Company any matter of
private interest in the Company.
ARTICLE x.
Pay of Secretaries.' The Recording and
Financial secretaries shall receive the fol
lowing compensation tof their services, to
wit: The Recording Secretary shall re
ceive the sum of one dollar for each meet
ing of the Company, except fires,' drills
aud parades ; and the Financial Secretary
shall bo entitled to receive the sum of
twelve dollars per annum,' payable quar
terly ; said Secretaries to be paid by orders
on Treasurer,' signed by tho President and
Secretary.
ARTICLE XL
Fines and Dms of 31imbcrs. Each mem
ber shall contribute the sum ot twenty-five
cents per month towards defraying the ex
penses of the Company ; besides they shall
be subject to be fined as follows,' to-wit sj

ARTICLE XII.

Company sliall be exempt from the pay
ment of all monthly dues, but shall be sub
ject to be fined iu double the sum assessed
or imposed upon a member for the same
