RIPIHUCAS STATE PLATFORM.
... The Republican party of Oregon, in con
vention assembled, makes this declaration
-of ita principles and policy :
Jiexolretl. That in this Centennial year of
American Independence: we 'again affirm
our devotion to those fundamental princi
ples upon which the republic and the Re
publican party were lou tided. ' Among
.these are :
1. Unswerving fidelity to the constitu
tion and the perpetuity ot the Union.
2. The preservation ot the liberties and
.equal rights ot ail citizens throughout 'the
.nation, and the impartial administration of
the laws in every part of -the - country, for
the protection and enforcement of public
mid private rights and the punishment of
violence and crimes. '':
3. Pure and economical administration
of every department of the government,
iState and national and we pledge the sup
port ot the Republican party to all meas
ures honestly proposed and wisely design
ed to promote the moral and material pros
perity of the people.
4. 'That a well instructed people alone can
be permanently free, it is therefore essen
tial that the public school system shall be
maintained in order that every child may
-receive such education as will" lit him tor
.useful citizenship, and we are unalterably
opposed to any division of public school
money for any purpose whatever.
5. That while we are in lavor of a rev
enue for the stiDDOrt of the areneral eovern-
meut by duties upon imports, sound policy
inquires such adjustment of those imposts
as to encourage the development of the in
dustrial interest of the whole country, and
we commend that policy of national ex
change which secures to the working men
.liberal wages, to agriculture remunerative
.prices, to mechanic and manufacturers an
adequate reward for their skill, labor and
enterprise, and to the nation commercial
prosperity and independence.
6. That the best interests of all citizens
of every condition ami pursuit imperative
ly demand the speediest return to a specie
basis of values and currency, and we hail
with gratification the act of st Republican
.Congress definitely providing tor that end.
7. That we are in favor of untiring pros
ecution and punishment ot public fraud
and crime, straw-bidding and speculation
in oflice, wherever existing, atid we repeat
the injunetion,Let no guilty man escape."
8. We demand that our national candi
dates sliitll be men of tried integrity, who
will carry .out this policy of reform, and
preserve inviolate tlm great results of tins
war.
0. AVe arraign the present State adminis
tration and its supporters a corrupt and
protiigate. They have robbed the com
mon school fund; they have been guilty of
partizan legislation; they have squandered
ur patrimony in lands, and heaped upon
:;s a deb? of over ."100. 000 hi direct viola
tion of the constitution.
