A scouting arty which left Camp
Verde, Arizona, on the 26th of June,
under command of Major iiray, of the
8th infantry, returned on the 8th hist.
They report seeing signs ot Indians in
Tono Basin. On the morning of July
1st they struck the ranchero and killed
25 and took nine prisoners. Another
ranchero was struck July 4th, at the
head ot Verde Cauyon, and five killed
and six captured. The Indians, known
as White Mountain Apaches, do not
belong to any reservation, and had
been stealing stock from Verde settlers.
