That the following sums be, and they are hereby, appropriated out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to supply deficiencies in the appropria tions for the service of the Government for the fiscal yonr ending June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and seventy-four, and for former years, and for other purposes, namely : DEPARTMENT OF STATE. FOBKIQK INTERCOURSE. For rent of court house nnd jail, with grounds appurtenant, in Jeddo, Japan, lxdng a deficiency for the fiscal year end ing June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and seventy-four, five thousand dollars. For stationery, book cases, arms of the United States, seals, presses, and flags and payment of rent, freight, postage, and miscellaneous expenses. Including los9 bv exchange thereon, being a deficiency for the fiscal year ending June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and seventy-one, as per accounts duly audited by the accounting officers of the Treasury, six hundred and sixty-eight dollars and stxty-four cents. For Interpreters to the consulates in China, Japan, and Siam. including loss by exchange, being a deficiency in the serv ive of the fiscal year ending June thirtieth eighteen hundred and seventy-three, as per accounts duly audited by the account ing officer of the Treasury, "two thousand and thirty-seven dollars and twenty cents, and on account of the same for tlie fiscal year ending June thirtieth, eighteen hun dred and seventy-two, one thousand and forty-six dollars and twenty-four cents; in all. three thousand and eighty-three dol lars and forty-four cents. For the legislative expenses of ahe Ter ritory of New Mexico, to pay balances due Juan C. Romero, salary ns member of the assembly, sixty-six dollars: William F. M. Amy, late Secretary ot the Territory ninety-four dollars and seventy-one cents; and Henry Wetter, late secretary of the Territory, one hundred and twenty dol lars; making, in all, two hundred and eighty dollars and seventy-one cents, be ing deficiency for tlie fiscal year eighteen hundred and seventy-two. For the legislative expenses of Washing ton Territory, being the amount required for tlie increased compensation of mem bers of the assembly authorized by act of January twenty-third, eighteen hundred and seventy-three, one thousand three hundred and ninety-five dollars and thirty cents. TREASURY MISCELLANCOUS. For furniture and carpets for the Treas ury Department: For carpets desks, tables chairs, shelving for file-room, boxes, re pairs of furniture, cases, oil cloth, matting rugs, chair covers and cushions, repairs and laying of carpets, and other miscella neous items of a like character, ten thou sand dollars. For furniture and renairs of same, car pets, and similar .necessaries for public buildings under the control of the Treas ury Deiw.rt.ment. ten thousand dollars. For repairs and preservation of all pub lic buildings under the control of the Treasury Department, forty thousand dol lars. That the unexpended balances of the ap propriations for vaults, safes, and locks for public buildings, and for fuel, lights, water, and miscellaneous ItemS for the same, now remaining on the books of the Treasury Department, and unavailable under the provisions of the fifth, sixth, and seventh, sections of the act of July twelfth, eighteen hundred and seventy, are hereby made available from and after the passage of this act. For paper, engraving, printing, express charges, and other expenses of making and issuing the national currency for the fiscal year ending June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and seventy-three, eleven thou sand two hundred and nineteen dollars and seventeen cents. For paper, engraving, printing, express charges, and other expenses of making and issuing the national currency re quired to complete the service of the fis cal year ending June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and seventy-four, twenty thou sand dollars. To pay commission allowed by law to collectors of customs acting as superin tendents of lights, twelve thousand dol lars. For completion of extension and remod eling the old building for court house and post-office at Indianapolis, Indiana, forty thousand dollars. For examination of national banks and bank-note plates, being amount required to pay C. A Meigs, bank-examiner, for services in examining savings banks in t he District of Columbia, six hundred and and thirty-nine dollars. For continuing tbe introduction of shad into the rivers and lakes of the United States, to be expended under the direction of the Un ited States Com missloners of Fish and Fisheries, fifteen thousand dollars, which shall be available also for the ensu ing fiscal year. Durant balance due him undar contract with Joint Committee on the Revision of the Laws, for the prep aration of tbe report of tbe late commis sioners on the revision, compilation of Indian treaties, post-road bill, and the bill regulating the punishment of military offenses, three thousand one hundred and seventy-flve dollarsand three cents. To enable the proper accounting officers of the Treasury to pay the amount found due the United States associate justice for the Territory of Montana for the fractional part of the third quarter of the year eigh teen hundred and seventy-two, eighty-one dollars and filty-two cents, or so much thereof as may be necessary. For this amount, or so much thereof as may lie necessary, to subsist the Navajo Indians, in accordance with the estimate of L. E. Dudley, superintendent of Indian affairs, up to June thirtieth, eighteen hun dred and seventy-four, twenty-five thou sand dollars- For this amount, or so much thereof as may be necessary, to pay for the services and expenses or five Indian inspectors, lieing the difference between the sum re quired, thirty thousand dollars, and the amount appropriated February fourteenth eighteen hundred and seventy-three, twelve thousand four hundred dollars, sev enteen thousand six hundred dollars. For tbe first of ten instalments, to be paid, under direction of the President, to the Flathead Indians removed from th Bitter Root Valley to the Jocko reserva tion, in the Territory of Montana, in ac coolanee with the second section of the act entitled "An act to provide for the re moval of the Flathead and other Indians irom the Bitter Root Valley in the Terri tory of Montana," approved June fifth, eighteen hundred and seventy-two, five thousand dollars: Prm-Uled. For this amount, or so much thereof as may be necessary-, to provide, under the direction of the Secretaryof the Interior, settlement, clothing, food agricultural Im plements, and seeds for the Modoc Indians that have been removed to and are now residing within tbe Indians Territory, ten thousand dollars.
