Fattier Altree died at 4 o'clock
Snnday afternoon of paralysis, fter
a lingering illness of many weeks.
He wa9 buried on Tuesday after
noon. A Fool. The tanners talk of
putting up a pool of 20,000 bushels
ot wheat as a market opener.
Whether the pool will he ofJered to
the highest bidder, or a price will
be set at which it will be sold, we
have not learned.

Switch Chanced, The rail
road company have taken up a
portion of the switch and replaced
h so as to be more convenient to the
Farmers' warehouse, and extended
it east to .Morris & Parker's new
warehouse. Under the new man
agement the company seems to be
extending every reasonable facility
to our shippers.
Excursion. On Tuesday
Mesxrs. Dave Thompson and wife,
Ana. Marshall, wife and three chil
dren, Perry Raymond and wife,
Allen Parker, wife snd son, Mrs.
Samuel A'thouse and tour daugh
ters, took the southern bound train
for Pass Creek, where they intend
to enjoy camp lite among the foun
tains. They will be absent about
one week!

Dr. Boughton never made anv
charge, and only accepted what
Mr. Powell, Mrs. Powell's husband,
through Dr. W. II. Harris, freely
tendered $150. These are the
facts in the case, and those who
have beard or retailed a different
story were, to say the least, wrongly
informed.
New Firm. ClaftV, Stewart is
now one of the proprietors of the
Democrat, as we see by the last
issue. Claib is a young man of
good promise and ability, and hav
ing worked in the office for several
years past, thoroughly understands
the demands of the patrons ot the
concern. May the success hitherto
attending the paper continue with
the new firm.
Plums. Last week Mrs. E. B.
Purdom presented us with a little
branch, cut trom a plum tree in her
garden, not longer than your hand,
on which was clustered near a quart
of luscious plums. This was only
a fair sample of the manner in which
that tree was laden with fruit.
A Good Investment. The
stockholders in the Albany Far
mers' Warehouse, last season,
cleared over twenty-five hun
dred dollars a profit of twenty
one per cent, on the capital inves
ted. This is certainly a good and
profitable investment.

The health of the county is im
provit somewhat, but there are
still quite a number of sufferers.
Bilious fever seems to be the pre
vailing disease.
Baum has purchased an immense
stock of clothing, dry goods, etc.,
in San Francisco, which will soon
be spread upon counters and shelves
for the inspection of purchasers.
Vanny Smith has retired from
the firm of C. P. Harper A Co.
merchants, and will probably here
after devote himself to scholastic
pursuits. Possibly a portion of his
time will be devoted to agriculture,
such as chasing the swift-winged
butterfly, snaring the festive potato
bug, spearing the soaring fish, or
shearing the omniferous gutter
snipe. May success attend him.
