Operation Performed. oine j on First street, next to Weed's
two weeks ago, in San Francisco,
Miss Laura, daughter of Dr. Tate,
of this city, who has been threatened
with blindness, had an operation
performed upon her eyes by an em,
inept surgeou of that city. It wil'
be some time yet before the results
of the operation can be defii''j

it will prove successful, and that

False. Last fall, Dr. Bough,
ton, of this city, removed a tumor
from the right side, over the region
of the liver, of Mrs. Powell, who
resides about six miles trom this
city. The operati n was entirely
successful, and the lady is now en
joying good health. We make
mention of these facts now, for the
purpose ot contradicting reports that
have been put in circulation regard
ing the matter. It has been

the sum ot $600 for removing the
tumor, but after some difficulty was
persuaded to cut his charge down
to U00. The whole report is false.
Dr. Boughton never made anv
charge, and only accepted what
Mr. Powell, Mrs. Powell's husband,
through Dr. W. II. Harris, freely
tendered $150. These are the
facts in the case, and those who
have beard or retailed a different
story were, to say the least, wrongly
informed.
New Firm. ClaftV, Stewart is
now one of the proprietors of the
Democrat, as we see by the last
issue. Claib is a young man of
good promise and ability, and hav
ing worked in the office for several
years past, thoroughly understands
the demands of the patrons ot the
concern. May the success hitherto
attending the paper continue with
the new firm.
Plums. Last week Mrs. E. B.
Purdom presented us with a little
branch, cut trom a plum tree in her
garden, not longer than your hand,
on which was clustered near a quart
of luscious plums. This was only
a fair sample of the manner in which
that tree was laden with fruit.
A Good Investment. The
stockholders in the Albany Far

cleared over twenty-five hun
dred dollars a profit of twenty
one per cent, on the capital inves
ted. This is certainly a good and
profitable investment.
