Election Day Pawd off

Cherries. To friend Miller, of
Tangent, we are indebted for the
first ripe cherries ot the season.
They were luscious. Mauy thanks.
Scratching. We have heard
f "scratching" at elections, but the
way tickets were scratched in this
city on Monday, beat anything.
There was a "corner" in lead pen
ils long before noon.
On Havo. Nearly everybody
was in the city on Tuesday, all
anxious to hear the result of the
lection. Faces were shortened or
lengthened as the news was favora
ble or unfavorable. The weather
was cloudy and blustery.

At Lebanon We hear there

Win. Herreii, ot Salem, has
lately received a letter from his sou
living on Willow Creek, Wasco
tiiinty, and states that crops look
well, but that the crickets have be
.me very annoying, and threaten
to distroy everything they have
growing. They have tried running
a water ditch around the fields with
ome success, but the dead crickets
lodge and make bridges for the
live ones to cross on, and the next
expedient would be to set a roller
iu motion to crash them. From
every section of oar State comes
news that crops have unpreoedeuted
promise.
