In the Democrat of Friday, May
15th, we find a communication
beaded, "Will the Slanderer Res
pond?" signed by J. F. Hendrix,
charging that an article in the
Kkoister of May 2d accuses one
ot'tlie Democratic candidates for
Senator of Linn county with
'getting away with anotfier man's
wife, and living with her in open
violation of law and decency," ami
thereupon Mr. Hendrix assume
that he is the man referred to, and
pronounces "the whole thing as a
willful and malicious falsehood,
and challenges the proof." If the
