c ALBANY REGISTER. A REMARKABLE INCIDENT. Tie Marysville Appeal of March 28th gives this incident : In an item published on the 20th instant, we stated that during a thunderstorm, which occurred about twenty miles north of this city on the 16th instant, a large number of wild geese were killed. I he state ment of our informant was so re markable that we gave it but little credence, and declined to publish it all. But the following from the Sutter Manner confiims the remark able incident: "First, a small amount of common hail, and thcu followed sufficient snow to whiten the ground. As the hail began to tall, and the lightning flashed, thou sands of wi!d geese, which were in the ponds of shallow water which exist in that locality during the wet winters, suddenly rose up in a great nutter, as if many hunters had dis charged a volley among them. They went up and up, apparently to rise above the tearful c'oud. It was nearly dark, and those who saw them rise thought no more oi it until morning when they began to find dead geese and hear ot bun dreds being picked up by the neigh bors. Some had been found. One man picked up on his farm all two horses could haul, for feathers. Their heads were badly torn and their bills split into fragments Many of them had the feathers ot their backs crisped and burued and their bodies bursted open. The portion of the country thus affected was about a mile and a half wide, and reached several miles into Butte county." The vivid lightning was remarked by a number of people in this city, and all remember the heavy rein which fell soon after, which occurred on the evening of the late e ection. A Ghastly Discovery. A special dispatch from Riddeford, Me., received at Boston on the afternoon of March 16th, says some boys, while playing near the bank of the Saco river, about half a dozen rods below the cataract bridge, found, hedged in among the rocks, a human head. The head was that of a young woman. The face quite beautiful, and was so well preserved that it could not have been in the water more than forty-eight hours. A cord was tied tightly around the forehead to which was attached a brick. The horrified boys notified the police, who hurried to the spot, and in a few moments quite a crowd had collected. Coroner Gains declared the face to be that of a young lady he had seen on the streets, and several persons were of the same opinion. The head was taken to the city hall for recognition, and it is estimated that during the after noon a thousand persons eagerly sought admission to the hall, among whom were mauy ladies. The face is described as that of a young lady of twenty years, dark hair, teeth well preserved, as are all parts ot the head save a piece ot one ear, which is gone. The head had been chopped off from the body close to the chin. The affair causes great, excitement, and all sorts of theories are broached as to the cause and nature of the crime which, it is evideut, has been com mitted. In Saginaw, Mich., they were trying a case of poisoning. The principal witness, Benjamin Colvin, rather laid out the defendant's counsel when asked if he didn't have some trouble with the defend ant He answered: "Not more, sir, than I had with yon when we were playing draw poker, and you stole four jacks and beat my flush, skinning me out of $64." There was one man in the court room who dA not join in the langh. tWyiffi - A Topelta lady sums up the first three years of her experience in married life as follows: "The first year he oalls me 'dear,' the second year "Mrs. A, and Che thirl year old sorrel top,' if ;, . vi iirmt .
