The Pendleton Tribune says: " While hundreds of cattle have died during the past winter, because of the unusual severity of the weather, nheep not only have not died to any great extent, but are actually in a thriving condition. Sheep can live on much less than caUle ; their wool keeps tliein warm ai d shields them trom the coid windf of winter, and when snow covers the ground they paw it off the grass and live well where a bovine would starve. We would prefer sheep all the time to cattle, were it not that they are lia ble to contract certain infectious diseases which decimate the flock in a very short time. Umatilla county, hdwever, is considered very healthy for sheep ; and the general success which has thus far attended dfieep raisers proves this opinion to be well founded." Senator Sumner's Coffin. The Philadelphia Record gives the following description of the coflin forwarded to Washington from that city for the reception of the remains of the (ate Senator Sumner ; "It is nearly sqnare, and made of a species of wood said to be more durable than any metal. The side panels are covered with black cloth. The handles, of which there are eight, are of solid silver, they represent two hands grasping a rod about eighteen inches long. The lid is of two parts, or panels, and made of French crystal-plate glass. Two jianols of cloth are made so as to cover the glass when required. The entire casket Is surrounded by a massive molding of silver. The inside is uphols tered with white Hatin, silk, and Venetian lace, heavy silken tassels dropping from each corner. The casket is six feet four inches in length, four handles, above described, being on each side." The Imparted Fercheron .Stallion White Prince, WILL BE AT THE LIVERY STABLE of Messrs.
