Lost Rkwakd. Mrs. Dr. Geary
has lost an oval moss-agate sleeve

Rev. A. R. Medbcrry, of Portland,
preaches at the Baptist church Wed

Prospering. Messrs. Titus Boure
gardes & Co. of this city, have estab
lished a branch jewelry establishment
at Corvallis. We hope the new ven
ture may prove as profitable as the in-
investment here has proven.
Albany Express. The Albany
Express, from this city to Portland,
resumes business next Monday, leav
ing Albany depot at 5.30 A. M. each
day, and returning at 8.2B P. M.
a chance to go to Portland and return
the same day.
Accident. On Monday Mr. Fike
threw a hammer at a spider on the
wall, but missed the spider and struck
one of his little children on the head,
just above the right temple. Although
the life of the little child was dispaired
of for a few days, we learn that It is
gradually Improving.
Gold Mkdal. Mr. C. P. Burk
hart has been awarded as a prize for
tlie greatest variety of cereals grown
by one person for the year 1873, by
the State Agricultural Society, a
Iteautiful gokl medal. It is about
the size ot an American dollar, and in
value approximates 50.
Assignee's Sale.-0ii Saturday,
the Uth inst., the entire stock of
furniture belong to the estate of Chas.
Mealey, bankrupt, will be offered for
gale, consisting of chamber and parlor
nets dining room sets, bedsteads,
bureaus, tables, chairs, blinds, cur
tains, etc. For bargains in furniture,
be in attendance at the sale.
Personal, Mr. Oliver Jackson,
of Dalles, was In the city on Friday.

Sudden Death.-A gentleman
named Murphy, a resident of Mon
mouth, arrived in this city on Sunday
ou thii northern hound train. He had
been in poor health for some time,
and liad taken a trip out South for his
health. He was taken to the residence
of Uncle Johnny Powell, in the eatern
suburbs of the city, where he died a
n few ljoijrs after his arrival. He was
a member of the Christian Church, a
useful ! member of society, and had
many warm friends. Ho leaves a
wife and large lamlly of, children to
mourn jhls loss.

boating stage, and is liable to continue
so as long as the weather continues
warm and the waters fell in such oo
rrions showers.
Eggs Have taken a drop, and are
now quoted at 25 cents per dozen.
This gives us anotlier chance to obtain
good grub.
Near Comstock's Station on Satur
day morning last, a man named Mur
ray, while out hunting, had a terrific
encounter with a cougar which boldly
attacked him. Murray succeeded in
killing the cougar with a knife, but not
till alter he had received some painful
wounds.
Prof. Connor is doing a land office
business in the way of scholars in at
tendance on his writing school.
