New Years' Eve Bali, Given by
tir Fire Company, was a perfect and
brilliant success. Taciflc Opera Ilmise
was artistically decorated and trans
formed by fairy fingers tuitil it resem
bled a fairy bower. Some ninety
couple were in attendance, and the
dance was kept np until four o'clock
the next morning. The music, fur
nislied by East Portland String Band,
was superb, and the calling excellent.
We hear nothing but praise of the
whoie affair bestowed upon the man
agement of the ball. Supper, at the
St. Charles, was another success, for
which friend DnBoisgot a full share of
commendation from all the partici
pants. The boys are proud of the
grand success of their ball, as well they
may be, as it tar outshines any of then
previous efforts. May the fullest suc
cess always attend the Onesters.

A Mistahb. A local editor say
there's not a girl in 'Page county,
Iowa, who will marff. a editor. As
he is the only editor in the county,
and he not celebrated for h's beauty,
it isn't astonishing that be should
think and express himself as he does.
It a certain Democratic editor we wot
of In this city, were to go orrt there
dressed in his red shirt, every woman
in the county would be anxious to
elope with him, even If his purse were
as empty as his knowledge-box. If
anybody doubts that Page county
would be overcome, let them furnish
our Democratic editor two bits worth
of coctails and then listen to httii talk
for awhile, and they'll doubt no more
Over five thousand women have com
mitted suicide on his account already,
and still his fascinations arc not used
up !
