Taciflc Opera Ilmise was artistically decorated and trans formed by fairy fingers tuitil it resem bled a fairy bower. Some ninety couple were in attendance, and the dance was kept np until four o'clock the next morning. The music, fur nislied by East Portland String Band, was superb, and the calling excellent. We hear nothing but praise of the whoie affair bestowed upon the man agement of the ball. Supper, at the St. Charles, was another success, for which friend DnBoisgot a full share of commendation from all the partici pants. The boys are proud of the grand success of their ball, as well they may be, as it tar outshines any of then previous efforts. May the fullest suc cess always attend the Onesters. Lebanon Orange. Marry Gardner, a deck hand on the Shoshone, was drowned, last Sunday, about three miles below Wheatland, in the Willamette river. The steamer had run aground at that point, and Oardner and the Mate, in a small boat, were attempting to carry a llneto the shore, when the boat was upset. The Mate succeeded in getting liokl of the capsized boat, to which he . finite until it reached a pile of drift wood, fi'om whence he eventually reached the shore. Gardner's body wasrecovered and taken to Portland. Deceased was a German, and had no relatives, so far as known, hi this country. State Temperance Alliance. The fourth annual meeting of the State Temperance Alliance will be held In Salem, commencing on Wednesday, February 18th, 1874. All organiza tions having for their object the spread of temperance, areeutitksd to represen tation on the basis of one delegate to every twenty members and a traction exceeding ten. Wheat Shipments. Wheat has been leaving our warehouses at the rate of thirteen thousand bushels per day since the rise in the Willamette brought steamers to our wharf.
