Democrats held a convention for tlie

be full of nails and other articles which

Encouraging to Boatmen. We

held in this city on Monday. They

hold "offls," escaped the salt river

Able Counsel. In tlie proceedings
liFiinst the State Board of Equalisa
tion, heard at Corvallis last week, the
parties instituting the proceedings re
tained Hons. Ceo. R. Helm, ot this
city, ami II. W. K. Clarke, of San
Francisco, as counsel, and to the able
manner which they presented the case
are the ieople indebted for the decision
rendered by Judge Mosher. If the
case is carried up to tlie Supreme
Court, as promised, a few days more
will settle the legality or illegality of
the action of tlie Stale Board of Equal
ization, so far as the State Courts are
concerned, at least. The Supreme
Court meets at Suleni next week.
Quiet. Although several wordy
combats were indulged in on Monday,
no blood-letting, we are pleased to
say, was indulged in, so far as we have
heard. There was an unlimited
amount of "scratching" indulged in
by our tree and independent voters,
but no gouging.
For Indiana. Rev. Mr. Oakes,

mon on Sunday, at tlie Opera House.

the Corvallis Gazette, was in good
spirits when he called yesterday.
A. S Mercer, of the Oregon Granger,
has gone to Astoria. Will return in a
few days.

prospect around in a bank, got a very
