McMinnvhxi, Feb. 28th, 1873. Ed. Register Dear Sir: Enclosed you will find an Item of news con cerning the McMlnnvllle College, whlclu if you find of sufficient interest you may give a place in your valuable columns. During the past eighteen months Prof. J. D. Robb, with a corpse of assistant teachers, has suc cessfully conducted the school. In point of thoroughness, students ot this College are equal to those of any other institution In the State. The Professor has decorated the College square a beautifully located five-acre lot with ornamental trees. The Trustees and other friends of the College, following his example, have placed double rows of maple trees around the lot. They will soon commence filling up the cen ter of the plat with a variety of orna mental shrubbery. The Financial Agent has succeeded in raising an endowment fund for the College, and is now taking notes on the subscription previously obtained, ami soliciting for a larger endowment. Some of the enterprising citizens of your own city, Albany, exhibited their liberality and favor of education by donating one thousand dollars to the McMinnville College, besides greater amounts given throughout the county. The Trustees have again employed Prof. Robb and Prof. E. Russ. Prof. Robb's qualifications and zeal as a teacher are too well known to need comment. Prof. Russ comes highly recommended as a live and efficient teacher, foil of energy and ability. We have every reason to believe the school will be in the future as it has been in the past, a rich boon to our country. Thus far it has smoothly, quietly and certainly made its mark, and with the addition of two teachers (for the third will soon be employed), we think that those who have shown so large a share of liberality and pub lic spirit in contributing to the school, will be folly satisfied that the enter prise is worthy the sacrifice they have made to advance it. The school will open with its new corpse of professors on the 12th of the present mouth, and as it then commences on the endow ment plan, every person having schol arships should avail themselves of the benefit of their subscription, by send ing their scholars or obtaining some other scholars to fill the place. Steam ers are now making daily trips up the Yamhill river to McMinnville, and the cars are running within two and a half miles of the town. R. C. HILL. New Firm. Messrs. Peters ft Spei del have associated themselves together for the purpose of manufacturing car riages, wagons, etc., and for this pur pose they now occupy the blacksmith shop on northwest corner of Ferry and Second st reotStWhere all the "ironing,'' under the supervision of Mr. Speidel, will be done, and the wagon shop ad joining on the north, where all the wood-work will be done, under the supervision of Mr. Peters, one of the best of workmen. They are now fin ishing up twelve hacks, aud have un der way eighteen lumber wagons, which will soon be ready for sale. Patronize home industry. Wood's Household Mag.vzixe For March, reached us on time. It is a standing financial conundrum with everybody how such a first-class journ al can be Issued at the low price at which it is afforded.
