A lew days since, Zimtuci'maou &
Co.'s, mill team ran away, throwing
the driver out of the wagon, one
of the wheels of which passed over
his thigh, lacerating the flesh in a
horrible maie.er. Xo bones were
broken.
The State Journal says : " Per
sons who have visited them say
that there are several falls on the
McKenzic, above the Salt Springs,
the highest of which are believed
to be 300 feet. A trail will be cut
from the Springs to the till Is this
season."

commenced on the 21st inst ,ou the
Coast Fork, between Cloverdale
and Creswell, under the auspices of
the M. E. Church South.
Xir. Elisha Brown, who left
Douglas county some weeks ago for
fowa, was found to lie insane upon
his arrival at Sacramento, and as
taken to the county hospital
Two saloons have recently lieen
closed out at Eugene. It is said
two more will follow suit shortly,
which, says the Guard, will reduce
the number to eight.
Mr Odell, of Eugene City, has
analyzed some of the water from
the Salt Springs on the MoKenzio,
and finds that it contains several
medical properties.

recently kicked by a horse, his col
lar bono and shoulder being broken
and other injuries indicted.
The Westsffle, published at
MoMinnvillco, says : " Last 7'ues
day, while the two James Warrens,
sons of AVm. Warren and Henry
Wan-en, were engaged milking rails
in the mountains west of '.'.is place,
they left tht'ir work to go to a
spring near by for water, and while
on their way their dog treed a large
panther, ''lie shot it and were
engaged i:i skinning the animal
when they discovered its mate with
in a few yards, waiting for his turn,
so they shot thrt two, and fouud
that their game measured over seven
feet each in length."
A young midshipman, named
Henry Fiancis Sin, on board the
H. M. S. Scout, lying in the harbor
of Esqnimanlt, li. C, committed
suicide on the 12th, by shooting
himself through the head with a
Snidci ritle. The top of his head
was blown completely off and fell
on the cabin floor, while the blood
and brains bespattered the ceiling.

J. A. Bonnet, of Payette valley,
had a couple of valuable horses
stolen from his farm several nights
ago. They were taken by an In
dian hoy that ho had raised, iu
company with a neighboring white
boy. Xo trace of them has yet
been discovered, though parties
have been iu pursuit since the night
of the theft.
The Standard, Boise city, says :

A man named Joseph Simpson,
in a saloop row at Portland last
Monday evening, was shot in the
abdomen by Charles Grant. He
died soon after receiving tho wound.
Grant was arrested.
A fire occurred in Ankcny's
brick building, Portland, last Sat
urday morning. Major Walker's
sleeping apartment was Occu
pied by his wife and an old lady,
at the time, the former of whom
was with difficulty saved from suf
location. When the door of the
apartment was broken in, she was
found insensible, and had to be car
ried out. The tire was subdued,
but not before the building was
damaged to the amount of from
7,000 to 88,000.
A party of forty-nine Bostonians,
provided with hunting, fishing and
campaign outfit complete, were in
San Francisco on tho 16th inst.,
