Monteith, Esq., has been nominated by the President, and will certainly be confirmed by the Senate, as Indian Agent at the Nez Perces agency, Idaho. The appointment was as great a surprise to Mr. M. as it was to Ins friends, as it was unsought. YTe congratulate Mr. Monteith on his good fortune, know ing that in him the Government will have an honest, able aud efficient serv ant. If all the offices of Government were as worthily bestowed, there would be no room for faultfinding by any one. IVing one of our most enterprising and energetic business men, in his departure Albany will be greatly the loser j but Uncle Satuuel will gain a competent and energetic officer, who mill loot carefully after the business with which he is en trusted.
