Railroad. Messrs. II. Cartwrijiht and J. II. Foster liave the honor of shipping the first freight over the Oregon & Cali forna Railroad from this point, Mr. Cart wright shipping newn car loads il tx seed. and J. II. Foster & Co. three car loads of flour and pork, on Thursday. The freight for the latter firm was hauled by teams from the Magnolia Mills to where the railroad crosses First street. Smith, Esq., we learn that business is good in llarrisburg, the enly drawback being the lack of transportation facilities. Moore, Smith & Co. have upwards of 100,000 bushels of wheat in their mills, and they will "construct" some 20,000 barrels of flour. 1'art of the will machinery being out of order, they are manufacturing but 800 barrels of flour ' per week, for the present. The same firm have fattened 500 hogs duritsgj the past season. Smith, liiasfield & Co., merchants, have purchased upwards of 1 ,C00 head of fat tened hogs, and will sugar cure hams and shotlJers during the Winter therefrom. J. Levi & Rro., merchants, have also purchased about the same number of hogs, aud will also go into the sugar cure i.tg business immediately. Smith, Bras field & Co. have sold 845,000 worth of dry goods and groceries during the year ju.-t closing. The municipal election trans pircd on the 5th, with the following result : Mayor, Jas.
