Wheeler, brought into our office on Tuesday some specimens of stone coal, taken from a lode or vein recently discov ered by Messrs. Bylaud and Prine (gen erally known as Big Dave), which, has more the appearance of the genuine ar ticle than we have seen yet taken from veins in this county. These specimens were obtained .on Beaver creek, Bome eihtecm miles southwest of this city. There are three distinct veins, averas ing about 14 inches in width, within a distance of forty feet, cropping out on the V 1. . C T t ri-1 . , uau. ui jucaver urcex. Alio Coal DUrns well, emitting no smell. Immediately overlying the coal is a substance, some inches in thickness, whicn resembles and . will probably prove to be fire-clay. If this should prove to bo a good quality of coal, as we hope it will, the ca.-e with which it can be obtained will make the discovery a very valuable one, and add another iudustry to build up old Linn.
