the following correct synopsis of amend
ments to the revenue laws, which should
be cut out by busiuesa men, atid placed
stmiewhere for handy refcreuce :
. 1st. Canned and preserved fish, shell
fish, meats, fruit and vegetables, are ex
empt from stamp duties on and after the
passage of the law, (.July 14th, 1870.)
2d. On axid after the 1st "of October,
1870, the stamp tax imposed iu Schedule
13, on promissary uotes for less sum than
one hundred dollars, aud on receipts for
auy sum of money, or lor the pay
ment of any debt, are exempt. '-Aud no
stamp shall be required upon the "trans-'
fer or ass-'gnuicut of a mortgage, where it
or tuc instrument it secures uas been
once duly stamped." The stamps-' re
quired oa Rank checks, Drafts or Orders,
Bill of exchauge, Certificates of Deposits,
remain as heretofore.

ly for his or their own proprietary arti

States and of every citizen iu the United
Stdtss residing abroad, derived from any
source whatever, whether within or with
out the United States, except us herein
after provided, aud a like tax annually

ved iroin any business, trade or profes
sion carried on in the United States by

States, and not a citizen thereof, or fioui
rents of real estates within tho United
States owned by : any person residing
