Business Two Editions. To be
up with the times and meet the demand
of our subscribers, we shall, commencing
with this number, issue two editions of
tho Register each week. The edition
for Friday morning's mails will be issued
Thursday night of each week ; the Sat
urday morning's issue on Friday night.
Subscribers who receive the Register
by Friday's mail, should anything of
great importance transpire before the
issue of the second edition, will be favor
ed with an " extra," containing said
news, by the Tuesday's mail ; thus they
will be but a few hours behind the por

daily mails. - It is our determination to
furnish a live1 paper, that will be a wel
come visitor to every household.
At the Convention. We notice
the natuo ot John Barrows, Esq., of
Oregon, among the delegates at the Cap
ital Convention, which convened at St.
Louis, Missouri, on the 20th of October.
As Mr. Barrows did not appear in the
Convention until after an organization
had been perfected, his name did not ap
pear in the proceedings of the first day.
We are under obligation to him for a
copy of the St. Louis Democrat,
Xthrough the politeness of Captain John
Smith), containing a full report of the
proceedings of the Convention. We
should like to publish the entire pro
ceedings, but as it would take some fif
teen columns or more of our paper, we
can't afford to spare the room. We pub
lish the resolutions adopted by the Con
vention in another place.
TnE Railroad. From the best in
formation we have been able to obtain,
the new survey, after crossing the Cali
pooia about one hundred yards above the
old bridge, as stated last week, runs west
to the neighborhood of Mr. John Hughes'
farm, where it strikes a " bee line " for
Ilarrisburg, running due south. The
last heard from the surveyors they were
camped about nine miles from this city,
but in all probability will have reached

FROM OCB KEGULAR CORRESPONDENT.
Brownsville, Nov. 13, 1869.
We have just perused a late number of
the Register, which fully satisfies us
that if the present energy and tact is
displayed in its management is fully car
ried out, it will prove a valuable paper to
the people of Linn county. ;
' We learn from Mr. Gordon Downey,
who is just down from the Dalles, that
work "on the U. S. Mint is suspended
until Spring.
Mr. Wm. Templeton, an old and es
teemed citizen, has just returned to his
pleasant home, after a somewhat pro
tracted sojourn over in Washington Ter
ritory, to look after the terminus of the
Northern Railroad. He reports himself
as well satisfied with his trip, and that
he found some fine country yet open for
settlement.
Mr. Wm. Raird has just finished cov
ering and enclosing the bridge at this
place by the way, a No. 1 job. The
bridge is 160 feet in length.
The wolves have been committing dep
redations among the sheep in this neigh
borhood for same weeks past. Last Sat
urday a large party of men and dogs
scoured the country over till evening,
and returned home hungry and weary,
with nary a wolf. Being one of the
number, I sensibly appreciate yet the
hard ride and harder saddle. I under
stand the parties are out again to-day ;
but Mr. Wolf is too sharp to be rousted
from his lair.
By yesterday's -mail we received a copy
of the Portland Eveiiiitg Commercial. It
seems as though the city has just become
aware that it was going over the river
a fact that any disinterested person might
have known many months ago. Port
land proper has controlled every commer
cial interest of Oregon so long, that she
scemes to think a change is not at all
probable. We give them credit for their
success in keeping trade on its present
site duriosr the minins excitement of
other years ; but we very much doubt if J
the same tact and policy will secure the i
same results much longer. But we are !
like the lady was when her husband
was fighting the bear we havn't much
choice which whips.

Accident. About noon on Wednes
day last, the engine in Messrs. Beach &
Monteith's flouring mills broke down,
which will cause a stoppage of the mills
until the broken parts can be repaired.
The' accident occurred by the breakage
of the ciauk on the large balance wheel.
The piston being thus freed, struck
against the head of the cylinder and
busted it out. Fortunately no one was
injured.
From Harrisburo. We learn that
on Saturday last, at Harrisburg, Wm.
Earns was arrested for an attempt to cut
loose a ferry boat; taken to Eugene;
had a preliminary examination, and was
bound over in S100 to answer. He gave
bail.

Mrs. 41. B. Morford. Tho Oiego-
nian, in speaking of this lady, saysl that
all who knew her (and the editor has met
several who have knowu her since child
hood), unite in bearing testimony to the
excellence and purity of her character.
That paper only intended to state that
the difficulty which resulted in the death
of Judge Morford, was caused by jeal
ousy on the part of tho Judge notj that
there was any reason to doubt the purity
of Mrs. Morford.
Supposed Murder. The Orcgcnian
of the ISth says: A correspondent at
Monticello writes that " upon examina
tion of the body of a man found dead on
Sunday, and the surrounding premises,
it is believed that he was murdered; in a
school house near by and then dragged
for concealment to the place where found.
The body was found in the brush by the
side of a small creek, the coat turned
over-ihe head as if the body had jbeen
dragged by it. The skull was crushed,
as if a blow had been dealt with a heavy
club, and such a club was found in the
school house, where, also, blood; was
found. Blood was found on a fence be
tween the school house and the creek,
and a trail plainly showed where the; body
had been dragged along from the fence
to the creek. It is supposed the man
had entered the school house' to sleep, as
passers-by sometimes do, the house being
unused, and that while asleep the assassin
entered and dealt the fatal blow foe pur
poses of revenge or robbery. Nothing
was found upon the person to indicate
who the man was or where from.) No
innuest was held, but the people of the
neighborhood gave the remains decent
burial. - v . - . i J
