The National Life Insurance Com pany of Washington, District of Columbia, presents its claims to the public as a first class insurance company, in the columns of the Register this morning. Among the several advantages offered by this company m ty be mentioned tha low rates of premiums"; giving larger insurance for the same money ; it is a home company iu every locality ; its policies are exempt from attachment ; every poliey is non forfeitable ; no extra rate is charged for risks upon the lives of females. Policies may be taken in this company that will pay to the insured the full amount with premiums added, so that the insurance costs only the interest on the annual pay ments. Read the advertisement of this Company, and then call on John C Mendenhall, Esq , the traveling agent for Oregon and Washington Territory, who will give you any further informa tion you may require, and insure you on the most reasonable terms. Correctios. The display line in the advertisement of the Santiam Academy which read, " Commencement Course " should have been set up, " Commercial Course." The attention of out readers is again drawn to the fact that, as a teacher will devote his entire time to this department of the Academy, as good a commercial education can be obtained at the Santiam Academy as at the Portland institution, or anywhere else. And it is all nonsense and the hight of folly to send children, at more than thribble the expense, to a distance, among entire strangers, to obtain that which can be ob tained at home, at a reasonable price, and where the morals and the health of the students can be looked after by the par ents. Patronise your home colleges and thus build institutions that will compare fayorably with other similar schools in any country. Home industries first, should be the motto. Cheap Watches. The New Collins Watch Factory, of New York, are fur nishing a splendid watch, ' manufactured from the Gold ' Metal or Collins' Metal, that for cheapness added to beauty and usefulness, cannot be excelled by any other company. Their $15 watches keep good time, and look full as well as those of other manufactories costing $125. Bead their advertisement. to continue three days. Speeches, es says, discussious upon, and explanations of, disputed or difficult points in the va rious brauches of common school educa tion, interspersed with music, will be the order of exercises as usual. It is hoped that teachers especially will come prepar ed to do their part in making this a pleas ant and profitable session. Ample ac commodation will be provided for all, and all who choose are cordially invited to attend. Public examination at the close of the session, j J. W. Mack. If you wish to see neatness and taste displayed in the arrangement of wares, or are in want of anything from a stove to a tin dipper, irive the new store a call. Look Out.
