Lost. On Friday eveninsr, the 11th
inst., a bundle containing a new , vest, of
dark "ray cloth, and a yard of tweed
clotb, the whole worth about S5, was
left for a moment ou some bundles of
shingles on Ferry street, near corner of
First. Upon the return of the owner,
Mr. John Beenier, the bundle had dis
appeared. Some one may have taken
the- bundle through a mistake, or think
ing it forgotten by the owner, have taken
care of it till the owner is heard from.
Any one having such ; described parcel,
will confer a favor on the owner by leav
ing it at this office, or sending it to Mr.
D., win lives at Boston. 4.
Goes it Alone. Chasley Mealey
will hereafter "go it alone" iu the fur
niture business, the partnership hereto
foree listing between Mealey & Plymp
ton having been dissolved by . mutual
consent. Mr. Mealey calls on all. those
indebted to the late firm to call and

morning. lie has received daring the
week some new furniture in the way of
bureaus that arp beatiful, and very
cheap. Furniture of all the various de
scriptions can be obtained at his estab
lishment at reduced prices for cash.
Rotary Washing Machine. We
saw at the furniture establishment of
Mr. C. Mealey, Esq., Monday, the model
of a new invention, called a Rotary
Washing Machine. - The inventor, Mr.
Leo Burkhart, of this county, claims
that it will do a larger washing, with less
labor, better, and with less wear to the
articles so cleansed, than any other ma
chine now in use. He will apply for a
patent. Linn county is full of genius.
Runaway. A little runaway and
smash-up occurred at Corvallis on Tues
day. Mr. Fox, a tailor ot this city, and
tailor Gownsky, of Corvallis, were taking
a buggy ride, when 7 the horse became
frightened, ran. away, .Gownsky , being
thrown from the buggy, or falling out.

in contact with a tree, head on, with such
force as to kill him, and the buggy was
thoroughly and effectually smashed
Fox was uninjured.
Cherries. This office is indebted
to Mr. Helm, of the vicinity of Lebanon,
for some nice cherries. A branch about a
foot in length contained as much as
ouart of cherries. Another one of our
large-hearted subscibers left with us
basketful ' of Roval Ann's. For their
rememberance of us, both gentlemen

Legal. The card of Judge J. Quinn
Thornton appears in the Reqiseb this
morning. Judge Thornton's legal ability
is well known and acknowledged all over
the State, and it i3 only necessary to
state that he has opened an office in this
scity, and offers his services to the public
in attending to law .business in any of
the courts. --
Hunting Party. Dave" Froman,
City Marshal, Judge Baber, and others
contemplate starting for the mountains
abmt the 28th inst., on a pleasure and
hunting excursion. Deer and bar stand
no show when they get within range of
"Family Supporter." It will be a jolar-
ious party, without a doubtless.

expedients for "preserving eggs, without

half of all the eggs sold in the markets
during the . summer are found to be

Linn County Fair We publish
this morning the list of premiums offered
by the: Linn County Agricultural Asso
ciation at its foruth annual Fair to be
held at their grounds one mile south of
Albany, commencing on Tuesday, Sep
tember 28th, and continuing until Fri
day, October lst-r-four days. The list
will be found on the first page. The
premiums offered are very full and liber
al, and it is hoped that the competition
therefor, in every class, will be much
in excess of any previous Fair, resulting
beneficially to all concerned. Some of
our mechanics have already commenced
getting up work for exhibition. Hurrah

Religious. The twelfth annual sess
ion of the Ceutral Baptist Association
was held with the church at McMiunville,
commencing on the 10th inst. and con
tinuing three days. After the Christian
gree:ings of the delegates, who embraced
each other with warm affection, they
were called to order by Elder R. d Hill,
the former Moderator,land after the an
nual or introductory sermon, they re
elected their former Moderator. Infor
mation from the different ? churches
indicated a degree of healthy prosperity.
Three new churches were added to the
Association, receiving the hand of fellow
ship. Some of the churches had passed
through trials and afflictions, but the dif
ficulties had been adjusted mutually, in
a magnanimous spirit. During the asso
ciational year two hundred, by experi
ence and baptism, have been added to
the church. There are now twenty-two
churches belonging to the Association.
During the meeting, the best order, with
religious feeling, spiritual enjoyment,
harmonious and fraternal co-operation
prevailed, and all realized the spiritual
presence of the Lord, inspiring hope of a
prosperous future. The christian cour
tesy of other denominations in freely of
fering the use of their churches to the
Association, and the kind reception of
the people generallj', demands the kind
est thanks of the Association.

This is an entirely new plan, giving Insurers
the largest return ever made by any Company in
the same period. -

33 to 50 per cent, of premiums. -
An illustration of the advantages of the credit
system as practiced by this Company, is the case
of H. C. Coe, of Yonkers, who insured his life in
this Company for $5,000, in February, 1857, pay
ing the whole premium in cash, $118 ; at the end
of the first year it was impossible for him to raise
the amount of the premium then due, in cash, and
be came to the office prepared to surrender the
policy. Being told that be could give his note
for the premium, he did so. " His death occurred
in less than seven months. His family are now
in the enjoyment of the amount insured. Had
he insured in an "all cash" Company, they would
have been left unprovided for.
, - This is, in itself, a complete refutation of the
absurd statement of ''all cash" Companies, that
it is injurious for the insurer to have the power to
give a note under any circumstances.
