Dextistry. Dr. Geo. W. Gray expects to be
absent from his office iu this city the first two
or three weeks of December, 1868, on professional
business ia the towns of Peoria and llarrisburg,
topping in each place a few: days only. All
persons living in the vicinity of tho above named
places, wishing first class dental operations, will
do well to give him a call soon after hia. arrival,
as business at his office compalls him te' hurry

Fire Engine. We are iuformed by
competent authority, that', a good fire
enuino, with hose carriasre and hose com
plete, can be had for the sum of 81,500.
We are assured by the same authority
that if an engine had been on hand
Tuesday night when he arrived there,
the nrain building could have been saved
aud the saving of this building would
have paid for the engine. Several citi
zens have offered to dig fire cisterns, at
their own expense, provided the city will
purchase an engine. What say our peo
ple 1 As wc understand it, an engine
cop. be obtained aud the city can pay for
tlie sanie in two or more yoars in fact,
on it3 own term'3 as to the time the
payments ohall be (made. At preseut
we are perfectly defenceless, can do noth
ing in case of fire but look on and let it
burn.
Gone East. The last ocean steamer
that left Portland for San Francisco,
carried as a passenger, Rev. Win. Mon
teith. We believe it is the intention of
this gentleman to take up a permanent
residence in the East, lie has the best
wishes of many admirers and warm
friends in Albany, for his future welfare
and happiness.
Special Term. Judge Boise will
hold a special term of Circuit Court for
this county, commencing on December
12th. 1868, for the purpose of hearing
the cause ot Lyman W. Pomeroy, charged
with causing the death of hia wife by
poison, some nine years ago.
