A staunch foe of communism, Mr. Moorad, through his
Knowledge of Russia gained by personal observation, had
been doing a fine w ork as correspondent for the O regonian
and com m entator for KGW in calling attention to the
th re a t of communism to our wav of life.
Mr G ratke. a native of Astoria who had served on a
num ber of Oregon newspapers, was foreign editor of the
L .iristian Science -Monitor ar.d was considered o n e ’of the
best inform ed newsm en on foreign affairs. It was only a
year ago in F ebruary that he visited his native state as a

All three of these men were known to local people and

loss to the field of journalism as well as to Oregon and the

O rganization of a drum and bugle corps by tl
erican Legion should fill a long felt need in this co
ity for a musical organization that can help pep thi
at various local events. Lack of a band or some t
musical group takes much out of a parade as for insti
the Fourth of Ju ly this year. While plenty of
wav m ade to get a band for the occasion none was
able All success to the new corps and m ay it be
