to be Shown
Saturday
New 1938 Pontiac “S ilver S treak"
w ill m ake its bow here Saturday,
according to Roy C. C artw rig h t, lo­
cal dealer, who retu rn ed last T h u rs­
day from the Pontiac national con­
vention in Detroit. Mich. First
show ing of the line w ill be m ade in
all parts of the nation S aturday and
C artw right expects to have a full
shipm ent of cars on display.
A lthough the general appearance
of the 1938 models has not changed
m aterially from the 1937. m ore than
300 parts have been altered, he sla t­
ed. A nother feature is that th ere is
only a very slight increase in the
price.
New features of the 1938 Pontiac
“S ilver S tre a k s ' include im proved
cen ter point steering, wheelbase
lengthened by six inches. 20 new
com fort and safety features, im-
proved
instrum ent
panel, road
shock and noise com pletely elim in-
ated. im proved p is to n ; and a clutch
booster that m akes the pedal re-
sponsive to the slightest touch Pon-
tiacs are again available in six and
eight cylinder models

Snell quoted a su rv ey com pleted
b y Yale P rofessor C harles J. T il­
d en w hich show s, am azingly, that
th e av erage m otorist steps on the
accelerato r even h a rd e r in w inter
th an in sum m er, although w eath er
an d road conditions are m uch less
favorable. M ore th a n 30.000 a u to ­
m obiles w ere checked over a total
period of fo u r m onths, in m id ­
su m m er and m id-w inter, and the
cold - w eath er m otorists averaged
n e a rly 43 m iles per hour, w hile
th e ir m ore leisurely sum m er b re th ­
ren trav eled a little over 39 m iles
p e r hour.
Besides im p ru d en t speed, Snell
listed the follow ing factors the
"m an at the w heel" m ust guard
against:
