Organized Minorities
A strong plea fo r o rg an izatio n of
the g rea t m iddle class of this country
fo r com batting subversive influences
was advocated by the district gover
nor of R otary a t a recent conference
in Hood River. This group is and has
been thro u g h o u t the y ears the b a c k
bone of this country.
The sp e ak e r rig h tly held th a t these
people should be b e tte r eq u ip p ed to
d efeat the various subversive elem ents
which are now out in th e open an d
which, because th ey are o rganized,
are not only im periling th e best of
A m erican ideals but are also inflicting
serious losses on this m iddle class,
which finds itself tra p p e d betw een a
crossfire of w a rrin g elem ents.
D anger of subversive elem ents is
often ridiculed w ith th e claim th a t
th e ir num bers are sm all. T h a t m ay be
true, but often an org an ized m inority
is m uch more d angerous and pow er
ful th an an u n o rganized m ajority.
People of H illsboro a re to ballot
S ep tem b er 28 on w h e th e r or not they
wish to e n te r the w a te r business. This
question has been h an g in g fire for
several y ears and it w ill be a good
th in g for the com m unity to have a
defin ite decision on it one way or the
other.
R egardless of w h e th e r you are for
th e proposal or against it. it is the
citizen 's duty to cast his ballot for or
a g ain st g o v ernm ental questions th at
a re placed before th e people. He
should not d eterm in e the way in
w hich he is to vote by m ere hearsay,
but r a th e r should rea c h his conclusion
only a fte r a c arefu l study of the ques
tion. He should rea d th e arg u m en ts
pro and eon and th en base his vote on
his conclusions.
All H illsboro citizens should go to
th e polls next T uesday. T he question
to be decided is a very im p o rtan t step
for the people of this com m unity.
