Aliens on Relief Relief A dm inistrator Harry Hopkins admits th a t aliens are on relief and th at aliens illegally in this country are work ing on WPA projects. W ashington re ports say th at in testifying to this before a congressional committee, he failed to view it with any alarm. Millions of aliens are in this country illegally and are hold ing jobs th at should be given to American citizens. We quite agree with Thomas Verde- nius, Memorial Day speaker here, th at these aliens, here illegally, should be ship ped back at once to countries from which they came. Those, who are here legal ly, should be given a period of time to become American citizens and if they do not sfyow enough appreciation of w hat this country means to them to become citi zens, then ship them back to the old coun try. W hat other country would be so big hearted as to take care of aliens on relief rolls? W hat other country would permit aliens to hold down jobs while their own citizens were unemployed? Proper handling of this alien situation would do much to solve our unemploy- ment problem and would make dear old America, where living standards are high- er than in any other country, a still better place in which to live. Traffic Problem The city s traffic situation is improv- ing considerably, but there are still plenty of examples of people failing to observe the rights of others. A car was noted parked in the middle of the street the oth- er morning, when there was plenty of space available for parking at the curb “ w l ia « C aLod°e"e"„ tru c k , parked and blocking are in wMle the d r i e r made a , business • .• ,, call. At the same time there was empty space at the curb within 50 feet. If everyone co-operates it will not be necessary for officials to make examples. But everyone should remember th a t there are ordinances on the books th at provide penalties for failure to observe traffic regulations.
