to the school by W . H. Brandos of P ortland. The press fir s t began
its w o rk in Oregon C ity in 1846, where on F ebruary 6 it p rin te d the
Spectator, the f ir s t newspaper west o f the Rocky M ountains. It was
presented to the U n iv e rs ity school of Journalism in 1915 by H a rrison
and W ebster K in caid, who fo rm e rly published the Oregon State
Journal on it In Eugene. Above a group of students are assisting Eric
