CONTEST RULES
1. The Hillsboro Merchants' Popularity Contests start Friday,
January 10, 1936, t a. m.
2. The Contests close Monday, M arch 2, 1936, at 8 p. m.
3. Election votes are given on the basis of 50 votes for each
fifty cents cash paid to participating merchants as follows:
(a) On all counter cash and C. O. D. purchases.
(b) On all cash payments made on open account purchases.
(c) On all cash down payments and installment payments
made on time-payment accounts during the period of
the Contests, regardless of when purchase was made.
Variations of this schedule are noted under the names of
certain of the participating merchants.

5. The Contests are open to U N M A R R IE D women between the
ages of 18 and 30 residing in Hillsboro and Washington coun­
ty. but employes and families of employes of participating
merchants and the Hillsboro Argus are barred.

GET STARTED EARLY
Ballots will be available at the stores of a ll co-operating m erchants Friday morning,
January 10. Nom inate your candidate for the contest at once and then get behind
your choice.
ContesiOit» should have their friends save votes for them and to remember to
ask for votes when making cash purchases. Contestants should keep the deadline in
mind and have their votes in the ballot box ahead of the closing hour.
With such fifte prizes at stake, the Hillsboro M erchants’ Popularity C o n t e s t s
should arouse interest over the whole county. Any W ashington county girl, no m at­
ter where she lives, has an equal chance. Every item of expense is included i n
amount paid by Hillsboro Argus and M erchants. The only cash a prize winner will
need is w hat she may w ant for souvenirs, postcards, etc.— even the tips are paid.
Merchants whose names are not found among those who have signed up so far
have an opportunity until January 16, 6 p. m., to join the list of sponsors. Those wish­
ing to join should contact the Hillsboro Argus for details of how they may co-operate.
6. One Contest w ill be conducted for contestants residing w ill-
in the city lim its of Hillsboro and another Contest for con­
testants residing outside of Hillsboro in Washington county.
Each girl w ill compete only against contestants In the Con­
test for which she classifies.
7. Nominating blank published In the Hillsboro Argus Is good
for 100)1 votes, but only one lot of 1004) free nominating
votes w ill be credited to any one candidate.

9. Votes may be mailed to the Hillsboro Argus or placed In
the ballot box whieh w ill be placed in front of the Hillsboro
Argus during the day and in front of the Venetian theatre

date. regardless of the residence of the voter.
10. Judges w ill be appointed by the Hillsboro Argus and their
derision in all matters w ill be final.
11. Merchants participating in the election agree not to allow
any of their employes to exert any undue influence in favor
of any candidate.
