AU Oregon reveres and honors those valiant heroes of that fast vanishing G rand Army of the Republic. The m eeting in Portland last week was heralded as the last encam pment for the state, but in characteristic fashion they declared th a t their meetings would be continued until there was not another one of them left a Iive. This great organization has been a trem endous factor in the grow th of the nation from Civil w ar days anil its mem bers have always been held in high esteem as the country's defenders. May the veteran groups of the Span- ish-American and W orld wars carry on in the valiant way these old boys of '61 to ’65 have over three-quarters of a century. Special accom m odations have been a r ranged for picnic and family gatherings. Additional benches and tables have been provided in order to extend this feature of the celebration. This event for more than a generation has served as a W ashington county home coming and thousands of form er residents journey here for the day to meet old friends from fa r and near. The many newcomers in the county are urged to be present and meet new friends. Hillsboro and W ashington county extend a hand of fellowship, Hillsboro people should be there as a body. Forget counter attractions. Be there to meet old friends and to m ake new ones, Local business anil professional people in a two-page advertisem ent in the second section of this issue extend a tru e wel come in one of the finest pieces of co operative work ever done in this county. Their co-operation is appreciated. Let's all exhibit the same spirit here next week. _____________ N ew spaper critics of the adm inistra- tion point to a lack of confidence.
