Nothing to Sneeze At
A bulletin from The Crusaders, Inc.,
in Portland reveals some interesting facts
on salaries paid union labor leaders as
published by the Tacoma, W ash., Com
m ittee of Two Hundred. Much publicity
has been given in recent years to salaries
paid business executives and in some cases
they were used in fom enting discontent
and strikes.
The rep o rt shows th a t W illiam Green,
president of the Am erican Federation of
Labor, is paid $25,000 a year. First Vice-
President F ran k Duffy, Secretary F rank
M orrison and T reasurer M artin F. Ryan
also draw $25,000 each. Daniel Tobin,
president of the International Brotherhood
of Team sters, Chauffeurs, Stablem en and
H elpers draw s $40,000 a year, etc.
Master Charts Course
National G range M aster L. J. T aber, in
a lengthy address before the stdte grange,
refrained from bringing up any contro
versial political subjects not directly re
lated to the w elfare of the farm er. Such a
policy has been adopted in a num ber of
organizations with benefit to the groups
and th eir m em bers and m ight be adopted
by still other associations with resultant
prestige and power to themselves. T ab er’s
friendly visit with G overnor M artin was
ta k e n in a num ber of places as a w arning
to a group of Oregon grangers to refrain
from involving the grange in bitter, p arti
san political controversy.
Probably Right
G eneral Johnson, the form er NRA
head, probably has the right slant on the
industrial situation when he says form a
tion of pow erful private codes are the
only salvation of the “ little m an.” Such
m easures should have plenty of teeth in
o rd er th a t all may be held in line for
the good of society. Too m any would have
us go back to the old days, where con
solidations and m ergers were bringing
about a g rea ter centralization of w ealth
in the hands of the few.
Newspaper Best
The best advertising medium alw ays

tinue so for many years to come. It is the
medium th a t is taken into the home, paid
