They made tip the old deal, with its spe cial privilege era. and a plan for a more equitable deal for all doesn't suit them. They would repeal the security act, which insures honesty in the selling of securities and prevents the “ gyping" of investors. For the eventual interest of these very per sons th a t are com plaining and for the good of the public in general the prac tices th at brought about the debacle of 1929 must never be allowed again. Roc •?- velt is absolutely right and has the back ing of the masses in his effort to give pro tection to the average citizen from ex ploitation by the few. t r Vandalism t t a 4 I y a I ? e ( t f 1 Vandalism in its worst stages was ex hibited with destruction w rought in the public garden m aintained on Main street by the women of the G arden club. Some- one went into the garden last week and ruthlessly cut the background of holly- hocks and other flowers. G arden club women have worked unceasingly to make this plot a place of floral beauty and it is nothing less than sham eful th at someone should stoop so low as to wreck their work I t < < t J « 1 ] l < t * i 1 < ] t 1 I t 1 l 1 « 1 1 1 i t ( ( 1 i 1 1 5 1 J < 1 1 1 1 1 1 i 1 <1 « I 1 I 1 « < J 4 Í «< -i 1 I I ( 1 J I « J « I New deal palling. A Good Policy Endorsement policy of the cham ber of commerce has saved the business people of Hillsboro thousands of dollars over a period of several years and was one of the most w orthw hile activities of the organiza tion. At one time Hillsboro was the mecca of most every fly-by-night proposition that existed and lots of money was taken out of the community to never return. With the adoption of the endorsem ent policy this picture was changed. This program should be m aintained and all work to gether in the common interest. Down at Eugene the other day the w riter noticed a card at the side of the door where anyone coming up might easily take heed. It stated that "No Peddlers are allowed unless endorsed by the Eugene C ham ber of Commerce.” Business institutions of Hillsboro are here to serve the people of this commu nity. In most every ease they get behind the activities that m ake Hillsboro a bet ter place in which to live. They pay taxes that afford police and fire protection, fi nance the schools and every project for the betterm ent of the community. These people merit the confidence and support of all local citizens. Such peddler signs would help a lot here. Elimination of much of the solicitation f o r so-called charitable purposes a n d f ly - b y - n ig h t schemes benefits the business people and in the long run helps the consuming public. Keep in mind th at it is always good policy to keep the dollars circulating in your own home town. such w ealth to escape their share .md d a u ^ h ^ r ^ u b y ^ ^ n d ^ w ^ th e ta u rd en .
