Thr order of thr city health d< ■

schools and other public gather
ings last Friday, was counter
manded on Saturday through ac
tion of the city council, following
a meeting of thr srhool board,
council and representatives of the
chamber of commerce, to inves

Few Cases Found
The schools, theatre and other
public gathering« were ordered
closed Friday by action of th«-
city health authorities because of
the reported prevalence of mra*
les and scarlet fever. The inves
tigation showed only one scarlet
fever case on the records of the
city health officer and that the
height of the measles epidemic
had passed, according to Coun
cilman O. Phelps.
Teachers and students had
scattered to their homes, but
frantic efforts on the part of Su
perintendent M. B. Signs secured
the opening of the schools on
Monday.
The attendance in the schools
is materially reduced, but the au
thorities thought there would be
less danger with children in
schools than if they were allowed
to play around together. A strict
quarantine has been recommend
ed rather than the closing of the
town.

State Board Counsels
The state health authorities
were taken into counsel and it was
found that medical rule* favor
the keeping of the schools open
nnd the enforcement of a strict
quarantine on houses.
Community Health Bulletin
Careful daily inspection shall
be made by the teachers and any
pupil with suspicious symptoms
shall be »ent home at once.
If the pupil live» at a dis
tance, notify the principal or su-
perintendent who will make ar
rangements for transportation by
calling the parents or otherwise.
Measles, mumps, German meas
les, chicken pox must be- quaran
lined. If a physician is not call
ed. the health officer must be no
tiffed. If in doubt, consult the
health officer.
Children w ho are sick must
not be sent to school or allowed
to attend public gatherings.
Quarantine must be kept. This
means that children in a home
where there is contagious disease
must not leave the property and
home of the parents.
Parents in homes where conta
gious disease exists, must warn
all people away from the house
where there is quarantine.
Where a pupil has been absent
because of illness, and no physi
cian has been in attendance, par
ents must be absolutely sure the
child is well and that there is no
danger of contagion. The health
officer should be consulted in this
matter. If a physician has been
in attendance, he should issue a
certificate showing that there is
no danger of contagion.
If dangerous symptoms appear
in any fimily. well members of
that family must occupy other
premises if they are to attend
school.
Plans are also being made for
health inspection of the school*
bv the local physicians who have
volunteered their services to sup
