SEWING EXHIBIT
The Seventh and F.taclith gratk
orwin da girl certainly did
thcmclc proudlv last Thursday
afternoon. The da exhibited
practical and well made article
which showed good tate and
great skill in hand sewing.
The exhibit room via hcauti
fullv decorated in the eaon'
festoons of cedar, fir and fern
intermingled with the jhiiiim ttias.
The article exhibited had be n
neatly preased and cleverli
placed which speak well for both
the girls and teacher.
The girl served tea to eighty
one guests which wan an unusual
ly large uutubcr considering the
tttormy weather and the busy
time.
Kach class had their lime on
duty, during which each commit
tee enthusiastically entertained
the interested visitors.
This is the first time for kit
year that the tirade School ha
had sewing taught. Visitors that
day aaid they realiied that Hills
boro had takeu another step in
the right direction by placing
sewing in their program as much
was hciug accomplished in that
line.
The Domestic Art teacher will
be remembered as having been
with us for five years after grad
uating from the Hillaboro High
school, and who recently finish
ed the Oregon Normal School at
Monmouth. Miss Mann also
teaches the third grade.

The Morris l'rothers" Bond Co
Inc., failed in Portland, the past
week and its ex-president, J. L.
. r.t lie ridge, was arrested in Mia
neapolis, Monday afternoon. He
will be brot back to Portland to
face charges of embezzlement.
The house has been selling bonds
for the city of hdmonlon. Alber
ta, Canada, and the sales liavi
run into the two million mark.
People from all over the North
west hive bought heavily, in
sums of from $100 to ? 10.000.
People known to Hillsboro who
have lecn victimized by the bond
company are: Dr. Banner Brooke,
1 1,000; A. Benselieidt, formerly
of Cornelius, fSOO; Dr. (. W.
Cole, formerly of Forest (trove.
$1,000; John S. Shutc. $'.'00; Dr.
C. V. Lowe, $300; Mr. Maude
Hoyt, $2500; G. W. Haglc and
wife, $1)00. One patron of the
Commercial Bank sent in his
check for $5,000, but payment
was stopped on the check, so the
drawer is just that much ahead.
The patron was absent w hen the
cheek was returned for collection
and it was held up until he re
turned. Elbe ridge had served two
terms in prison back in New Jer
sey, and the- Morris Bros, kii'ivt
of t tie fuels, but still gave him
employment-and finally sold him
the business in Portland. Ethc
ridge was given $10,000 when hi
left Portland last week by Fre
Morris, who took back the bond
assets, but there will not be mon
ey enough to pay ten cents on
the dollar.
Etheridge was here a few
months ago and talked before (he
club, and finally relieved Hillsho
ro's Liberty Loan quota of sever
al thousand dollars, taking the
bonds for his house.
