Forest Grove has the sympathy
of Hillsboro, which senses the
great loss to the beautiful little
city by reason of last Sunday's
fire. It is a severe, blow to For-
bag that city's Indomitable cour
age and sterling citizenship, al
ready sees its burned district
risen, phoenix-like, from the
ashes, and again doing business
at the old stand. Here's our
sympathy, anyway, but you need
it not, altho vou deserve it.

The bride is well known here,
having been a resident of Hills
bore since her birth. She is de
servedly popular and has a lost
of friends who tender congratula
tions. The groom is well known
in Portland, and only recently re

Robt. Harbison, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Harbison, of Fair Acres, fell
from his bicycle, the other den
and fractured an arm. His trou
sers caught in the w heel, precipi

las, accompanied by her daugh
ters, is visiting at the hoim of her
parents, Mr. and .Mrs. P. Roscow.
While the family is spending
a vacation here, D. P. is rustica
ting at St. Martins Springs, on
the Columbia.
Lightning vesterdav forenoon
connected with an S. P. line ear
near the Moore Laundry, and a.i
alarm was turned in. At first
there were two reports, one that
the Laundry was on lire, and the
other that the condenser had
been struck by lightning. The
department had a run for its
money for nothing, as no harm
was done outside of burning out
some of the apparatus on the car.
Corporal Elmer Batchelder, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Win. Ratehelder,
arrived home from France last
Friday. He went over with Co.
B, and last September was trans
ferred to General Headquarters,
at Chatimont. He is mighty glad
to get back home, and savs that
he had opportunity to see a great
leal of France and Southern Eu-
rope. Mmcr, like ninety-nine pcrj
cent of the boys, look the pic
ture of health, and is nomr the
worse for his experience. His
many friends are glad to see him
home, and he is having a big time
renewing old acquaintance with
members of Co. B, with whom he
left Hillsboro and crossed the
waters.
