Z. o-l R. F. RICE R. F. Rice, well known here as Frank Rice, a former resident of North Ilillsboro, died at his home at No. 5.17 Fast .list St., Port land. July 15. 1HS. after a short illness. Mr. Rice was out to Ilillsboro and Blooming a few weeks ago. and while not rugged was considered in fair health. He was born in Platte County, Mo., April 2.1, 1838, and when n boy moved with his parents to Illinois, where he remained until he was 21 years of age, when he crossed the plains to Oregon, ar riving in the Fall of 185!). lie settled first near Dillcv, and was married in 1873 to Katie Gibson, a daughter of pioneer W, O. Gib son, founder of the Dilley town site, and manufacturer of llour, the lirst miller to locate in the county. The wife died about 1881, and to them were born four children Otto P., of Portland, with the Lilly Seed Co.; E. F.. Rice, and W. E. Rice, now farm ing near Blooming; and Lura. who died al the age of seven years. i The body was brought to the Donelson Undertaking parlors,1 Monday, and the funeral took plaiv from the M. E. church on Wednesday. Mr. Rice was a man of high ideals, a sturdy friend and a good neighbor. The affection of his children testify to his worth as a father, and a host of friends around Ilillsboro and in the county deplore his taking off. FIDELIA M. BURRHUS Mrs. Fidelia M. Burrhus, of be low the M inter Bridge, died at the home of her son, Frank Wal lace, three miles southeast of Hillsboro, at 3:30 o'clock P. M ., Monday, July 15. 1918, after be ing in feeblehealth for several years. Her maiden name was Fidelia Straight, and she was born in Onondaga County, N. Y., Jan. 14, 1835, ami was married in Indiana in 1851 to Thos. Wal lace, who died Dec. 28, lSliO. She was married to A. P. Bur rhus in Boone, Iowa, in ISti!). She is survived by Mrs. A. M. A Miller, of Angola, Indiana, and Frank Wallace, of south of this city. Two children arc deceased Wm. J. and Rose. She came to Oregon in 1897, from Huron, South Dakota. Since the death of Mr. Burrhus Jan. 31, 1907, she has made her home with Mr. Wallace. She was a half-sister of Mrs, II. L. Frost, at Atlantic Iowa. Eleven grandchildren and six teen great grandchildren survive her. The funeral took place at 3:30 this afternoon from the Done! son Undertaking Parlors, ami interment was in the Masonic Cemetery, by the side of her late husband, Mr. Burrhus.
