pened last week:

GEO. V. KELLY
Geo..W. Kelly died at the home
of his son. Harland. above North
Plains, Oct. 28. 1916. He was
born in Elkhart Co., Indiana, on
Jan. 16, 1819, and was the eldest
of three children of Elijah and
Mary A. Kelly. At the age of
two years he moved with his
parents to Laport Co., Indiana,
where his mother died, leaving
him an 'orphan at the age of
nine. He lived from that time
on with foster parents until 14
years of age, when he wa3 sworn
into the Union Army, January
12, and enlisted in the United
States Army on Nov. 29. 1S63.
He was wounded in battle in De
cember, 1SG4, and detained in
hospital until the close of the
war. After being discharged
from the army he passed several
years on the frontier, and on
March 1G. 1871. was married to
Louisa A. Wood. Mr. and Mrs.
Kelly passed the first years of
their married life at the coal
mines in Iowa. On April 7,
1879, they left Boone Co.. Iowa,
and crossing the plains with team
and wagon, at rived at Glencoe,
Washington county, Ore., Dec.
29. 1879.
He took up pioneer life in
Washington county, residing near
Glencoe for about thirty years,
and then moved to Buxton, Ore.,
June 18. 1910.
The widow and the following
children survive him: Wm. E.
Kelly, Buxton; Mrs. Plezy Dun
ham, Mrs. Stella Halley, Mrs.
Elmer Carson, Portland; Har
land and IrVin E.. North Plains;
Edna Kellv, Hillsboro, and Ru
ben with the S. P. K. K. Co.,
Portland.
The funeral took place from
the Harland Kelly home Sunday,
Oct. zy. and interment was in
the Arcade cemetery.
At the Coffee Club meeting at
Mrs. J. A. Imbrie's. Saturday,
the Study Club was formally or
ganized with ' Mrs. C. E. Wells
as president, and Mrs. ,C. W.
Rollins as secretary-treasurer.
The first meeting of the Study
Club will be held at the home of
Mrs. Leonard Brown, Friday af
ternoon, Nov. 17, at 2:30 o'clock.
Members of the Coffee Club or
other ladies desiring to become
'members are invited to attend
the meeting.

A pretty wedding was celebrated
Wednesday evening. Nov. 8,
1916, at the home of the bride's
mother, Mrs. Emma Parent,
when her daughter, Evelyn,
was united in marriage to Har
Iand liay Sigler. Rev. E. A.
Smith, of the Baptist Church,
officiating. Vintie Bloyd officiated
as best man and Miss Lencra
Schwabar, of Portland, was the
Htiridesmaid. The wedding march
was played by Mrs. Frank Par
ent, of Portland, and Miss Emma
Tuppersang "I Love You Truly."
The bride wore white taffeta
de chine and carried a bouquet of
Bride roses. The bridesmaid
wore yellow silk and carried yel
low rosebuds.
The Camp Fire Girls officiated
as ushers and served refresh
ments after the ceremony.
Mr. and Mrs. Sigler will reside
in Hillsboro and will take up
housekeeping after a short wed
ding trip.
The groom is a son of Mr. and
Mrs. James Sigler, and both con
tracting parties are justly popu
lar with the younger set
The presents were many and
beautiful.
The ceremony was performed
on the anniversary of the birth
of the mother of the groom, and
the bride's mother celebrated
her birth anniversary the day
prior the wedding.
Juliana Josephine, the eight!
year old daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. J. W. Vandervelden, of
Roy, died Nov. a 1916. On
June 21 Mr. and Mrs. Vander
velden lost their baby boy, aged
one year. Both are buried in the
Verboort Catholic cemetery. The
bereaved parents have the sym
pathy of a large ciicleof friend3.
Mr. and Mrs. "Vandervelden wish
to sincerely thank their many
friends who assisted them during
their bereavement.

Missionary Superintendent, will

church, Sunday morning, at 11

farewell to Prof. Bradford, in
the High School Assembly, to

Mr. Bradford hft accepted a-fine
position in the English Depart
ment at Spokane High School,
and expects to leave sometime
soon. The High School deeply
regrets the departure of Mr.
Bradford, as he has been a
moving spirit in hieh school af
fairs sirrce he became a faculty
member a year ago.
The girls' gymnasium classes
bare been formed, and held
their first regular meetings this
week. Mr. Amsden ha3 charge
of the Indian club class, and is
instructing them in exercise
winch he expects to feature in
the May Day exercises.
