, Henry Brelje, a pioneer of the
Blooming section, died at ShelT
Jin. Thursday evening. August.',
' 1916, after an extended illness.
He was born May 28. 1K37, in
Hanover Province, Germany, nnd
came to America about 40 years
ago. He settled near B ooming,
about HO years ago. H' leaves a
widow to mourn his Joss. Mr.
Brelje was a highly resptcted
citizen and had a host of friends
in the section south of Cornelius.
Several years ago he moved to
the Shelllin district and made
that place his home.
He was a line neighbor, a good
husband, and a kind father.

Fred Herger Jr., of Bethany,
sustained a peculiar accident last
Saturday. lie had returned from
work, and in seating himself on
a chair was punctured by a darn
ing needle, the instrument en
tering the heavy muscles of his
tliiuh. He was brought to the
city, and Dr. F. A. Hailey was
obliged to make a deep Incision
before he was able to remove the
intruder.

Prof. M. C. Case, a well known
county ' teacher and educator,
died at the family home on Sixth
Street, at 0:30 o'clock. Tuesday
evening, August 8, 191G, after
many months of illness. His ail
ment was heart trouble, aug
mented by Brights disease.
Mr. tase taught many years
in Washington County, and for
three years was superintendent
of the Hillsboro public schools,
lie was also school superintend
ent ot Washington County for
two terms.
Melvin Cyrus Case was born In
Monroe Co., Michigan, April 14.
1859. the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Baniel Case. After finishing
high school he attended two
term at the Michigan Agricul
tural College, at Lansing, Mich.,
and then graduated out of the
State Normal, at Ypsilanti. He
taught 12 years in the Ypsilanti
schools, and in July, 1892, came
to Oregon. On June 25. 18,
he was married to Miss Josephine
Shearer, of above Forest Grove.
Besides teaching at Hil'sboro.
Beaverton, Dilley. Cornelius.
Centerville, and other points in
in this county, he taught also at
St. Helens. He belonged to the
Si Helens lodge of Masons, and
the Glencoe lodge of Knights of
Pythias.
His widow and two daughters.
Mattie and Clara Case. Burvive.
and a son by his first wife - Ray-
mond A. Case, lives at Los An
geles. The funeral took place this af
ternoon, at 1:30. st the residence.
Rev. Myers and Rev. Smith con
ducting the services.
Interment was in the cemetery
at Hillside, north of Forest
Grove.

old relic, last week, in the shape
or an election return for Con
gress, for 1859. when Stout and
Logan were the candidates. The
return was among the papers of
the late Mr. Chambers, father

precinct cast 25 votes only. The
vote, as returned, follows, and
Mr. Stout was elected over Dave
Logan, the attorney, by a major

John Dennis writes that he
will help out the Hillsboro Fair,

Bennett Thompson, charged
with double murder, is still bid
ing his time in the county jai
here and will not be tried until
September 5. Many have been
circulating the report that
Thompson has been taken away
to Multnomah, but he has never
left the Hillsboro. jail since his
incarceration, excepting when
taken to the court room to be ar
raigned and to plead.
