were thrown out of the rir. but
neither was injured.
Miller states that when he ar
rived at Newton a man asked for
a ride. He let him get in the
vehicle, and as they approached
the crossing, had no thought of
the train. Miller says: "1 wi s
talking to the stranger and did
not hear the train, at all. I
guess it was ray fault, too. for I
am hard of hearing in my right
ear, and did not hear the ap
proaching train. The curtains
of the hack came foiward to the
brake, and I did not look to see
if the track were clear, and
neither did I hear the gong,
which, the neighbors there say.

charge of the train, and Motor
man Pettygrove was at the
throttle.
This is the same place where
the Boge boys were struck sever
al months ago.
