result of a paralytic stroke sus-0f
tained ten days ago. He was
native of North Carolina, and
was born Aujr. 20, 1KJ4. making
his way West when a youth, set
tling on the coast He was a vet
eran of the Civil and Indian wars
and was a member of the G. A.
The grand jury was in session
several days last week, and the
case of the shooting of Mrs. El
mer Lyda. who died from a re
volver shot some time ago, was
investigated. Witnesses were
here in numbers and every pos
sible light was thrown on the
case. The jury returned no in
dictment against Elmer Lyda, as
some expected. The case is a
peculiar one. and the gossip
about it occupied the public mind
a few days. It is said there was
no evidence to lead the jury to
susoect that the case was not
suicidal Elmer Lyda. himself.
