A dual traged visited the Philips
family, near Whiteson. within a
week. On August 3. Fred Phil-
ips. a brother or Mrs. l-eo; O.
Hancock, of Forest Grove, "was
gored to death by a bull at the
Houck ranch. On August 10, a
half-brother's home was visited
by a tragedy which resulted in
leath and injuries to two. Ho
mer Phillips s home was the
scene of a gasoline explosion
which resulted in one death and
the possible fatal burning of the
husband and little daughter.
Mrs. Phillips was so badly burn
ed she died shortly after reach-,
ing the McMinnville hospital
where she w as taken for medical
attention. The husband was
terrible burned, as well as the
little daughter. The farm home
was destroyed. The father is
not expected to live and an
nouncement of death is expected
at any minute. The child was
not so seriously burned and
hopes are entertained that she
will recover.
Mrs. Hancock left Wednesday
for Amity to attend the funeral
of her sister-in-law, and to min
ister the brother.
The mother of the two boys is
critically ill from the shock.
Miss Putnam, stenographer in
the H. T. Bagley law offices, will
detiart next week for her home
in Minneapolis. Minnesota, and
will be absent a month.
W. B. Lousignont, of Gales
City, was down to the county
today. He says that there are
hundreds of campers on the
stream named after Joe Gales.

was a city visitor the first ot the
week. Olson will In a few years
live in the center of a fine Port
land suburban residence district.
Miss Loraine Cad well, of Los
Angeles, is here for an extended
visit with her sister. Mrs. Ihos.

result that his foot was so badly
burned that two amputations
followed. Dr. Smith will figrft

defend. The Dr. says that he
was not at the hospital at the
time and had nothing to do with
the ca.-u; until his return. Dr.
Smith said to the Argus that Dr.
Sars was in no way represent
ing I is business, and that the
nurse was not working for him
at the time, he being out of the
state? on his vacation.
