Long. They have been visiting
Wm. Metzler and family, of
south of Cornelius, for some
weeks. Mr. Kiemme is in the
iron foundry business, and he
and his daughter have ben tak
ing in the West, and incidentally
the Fair. They leave for the
Hast in a few days. Mr. Kiemme
says that he likes Oregon better
than any of the coast districts he
has visited.

ot Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ward, this
week, arriving here Saturday.
They will also visit relatives at
St Johns before returning.

ger. widow, was brought from

band was one of the first to start
a grist mill in the east end of the
county. They formerly lived
north of Reedville. and were well
known here.

Wm. Hanson Tuesday pur
chased the Reo car owned by
Loren Jackson. Mr. Jackson is
buying a Hudson Six. and he
sold the Reo at a sacrifice, Han
sen being away to the good on
the purchase. Jackson will bring
out his Hudson this week
J. J. Weisenbeck. of Reedville.
was in town yesterday. He says
that hopgrowers are now en
gaged in spraying for lice, as the
cool and damp weather has in
creased them mightily. A few
hot days would exterminate the
pest
C. E. Wells went to Portland
the first of the week and brought
out a new Hudson Six. Mr. and
Mrs. Wei's and four children, and
Dr. J. R. Marshall, wife and son
will start Sunday for an overland
tnp to the San i rancisco Fair,
and will be absent a month.
Josephine tins has been ap
pointed guardian of the estates
of Perry Ellis and sister, Kittie
M. Ellis, who were recently Bent
to the State Hospital, at Salem.
The property consists of lands on
the Portland mountain and on
upper Gales Creek.
' Mr. and Mrs. Fred Olsen de
parted yesterday for Alsea and
Waldport, over in Lincoln coun
ty. They will be absent several
weeks, and the fish stories that
Fred will tell when he returns
will make old Ananias turn over
in his grave.
A weenie roast was held at the
Rock Creek school house last
Tuesday, July 28. Games were
played until late when the wee
nies were roasted and eaten with
sandwiches. About midnight
the crowd dispersed, , having
