rolls, which he is balancing to
turn over about June 1. but he
handles no money. His office
force, however, is writing the
receipts for payments, and the
navor then ta'ies the blank to

the sheriff's office, where it
receipted.
It has been no small tax to iret
the balances made, with all the
reouisitions properly credited,
and it has taken time.
The new sheriff s office is now
so arranned that there will be
ulenty of room for tax colleatton
the quarters prepared being the

Fred Walters lost his horse
and buggy from the chain, on
Second Street, last Thursday eve
ning, about 11:20. The rig was
found at Montavilla, a day or so
later. The parties who took the
rig left it there without leaving
any identification behind them.
Portland officers say that there
is more of this going on from
Washington County than any
other in the state. Many fel
lows take rigs from here and
Beaverton, drive them to Port
land, and then stable them or
leave them tied to telephone
poles. Sheriff Reeves has a
pretty fair idea of who is guilty
in this instance.

harness. Just received a big
shipment of sweat pads, deer
