The recent issue of the Orejjon
Historical Society gives a list of
the delegates to the constitution
al convention in 1S57. Those
from Washington County were
Levi Anderson, farmer; John S.
White, farmer; and Judge E. S.
Shattuck. lawyer. Shattuck at
the time was teaching in wash
ineton County, and was after
ward an associate judge ol the
SuDreme Court. Jesse Apple-
crate was the delegate irom ump-

A plan which might profitable
be followed in all parts of the
Northwest has been adopted by
the counties included in the wil
lamette Valley Exposition asso
ciation, by which large sign
boards will be erected along the
line of the railroad telling pas
sengers cn the trains just where
they are at any time, in what
county and the distance to the
state capital and also to the near
est important town. All these
signs wjll be uniform in size and
attractive in appearance, it is
expected they will be f f great
interest to travelers.
C. C. Beers, of near Cornelius,
was in town Saturday, lie re
cently returned from Linn Coun
ty, where he bought a 4) acre
ranch, on which he will locate
his beys. The place has 200
acres under plow, and the entire
tract was bought for ?lo per
acre. It is about 28 miles out of
Aloany, -jn tbe Santiam.
