Jame Mavtirick, who ha4 been
in the county jail several months,
pleaded guilty to larceny from an
office, Tuesday, and was sen
tenced to an indeterminate term
of from one to seven yearn by
Judge Campbell. Tuesday. The
ofTense took place at Tigard,
where May brick lived, und where
he kept things in a Btate of tur
moil for some weeks, with his
wife' family, having at one
time threatened to kill thw
paternal ancestor of his wife.
After that Maybrick entered a
building, stole some saws, paint,
and other material and then
headed in at the county jail.
Concurrent with his sentence
Maybrick received a summon
from his wife, who ha su"d him
for divorce. The two. coming at
the same time, made things look
rather dark for the prisoner, but
hen he was taken to Salem, to-
ay, he had regained his delionair
manners, and wa ready to meet
all comers.

Oregon at 157 majority. There
is talk among some Portland law
yers that a move will be made to
have a recount. This i hardly
kely. however. Recounts of
this kind generally mean an in
creased majority, if anything.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Nachbatr,
well known at Buxton and Hills
boro, and who were residents
near Newton for the past ten
years, are now at Stuttgaia,
Germany. In a private letter
they tell E. I. Kuratli that they
are in good shape over there,
and that the war i3 not crippling
Germany's business at home.
They say they hope the thing
will be over before Summer, as
they intend coming back to the
U. S. A. before another year is
over.
A hack containing Mr. and
Mrs. R. E. Burton, of near Phil
lips, was wrecked the other day,
