To the credit of the citizens of Tilla ni.Mik it may he said that no overcharges w,-re made during the ei.carni rnent, and the resi de!, ts of the town put forth ev ery eifort t make the stay of e ery isitor .-njoyahle. 1 he llncampmeiit tipened Tues day, the ev.-nitig pn'ram being held m the large auditorium of the Christian church. In an ad dress of welcome Mayor F U Urals preset, Ui a larire kev to the II. A. lw and W. K. C. in I token that the city was theirs for three days. F.xorcisos were i held each ev ening at the Christ liun church, the program consist I ing of patriotic songs, addresses 'and recitations and the seating capacity of the church w as taxed to the limit. A parade was given Wednes day by the members of the G. A. K.. W. K. C.. fraternal or ganizations and business men, 'and was one of the most pleas- ant features of the encampment j Tho floats entered by the busi jness houses were espeeiallv well hlesigncd and called forth much applause from the thousands of spectators, particularly those typifying the varied industries of the city. In the afternoon the old soldiers and their ladies gave an old-fashioned dance in the Commercial hall, and the way they tripped the light fan tastic was in itself worth a trip to Tillamook. Music for the encampment was furnished by the Tillamook band and the Ore gon Prum Corps, and there was hardly a minute of the time when' the gentle breezes were not wai ting the tuneful notes of horn or tile through the city. Weather conditions were ideal, the sun shining in a cloudless skv during the middle of the day, and an ocean breeze making it 'delightfully refreshing and cool. Street shows and ball-ton ascensions helped to divert the large number of visitors. To one who has never before been to Tillamook, the number of line business houses aim 'dwellings, and the evidences of I thrift and prosperity are a reve , lation. Tho business houses in Tillamook compare favorably with any to be found in the Willamette valley in equal popu : lation. and thev are occupied by merchants who sell the very lat ! est the market alfords. Moi'li o f the tirosnenty of lil- lamook citv depends upon the patronage of the dairy t armors of that country, who find a ready market for their milk at the cheese factories. The man ager of one of the larger cheese factories kindly showed the writ er through the establishment, explaining the manufacture of cheese from the time-the milk enters the vats until the product is ready to be shipped to the markets of tho outside world, where it has gained a reputation for quality secona 10 non . n.ueh en loved.
