Brown complained of being the owner of the champion Oregon1 Grape of this locality. To con vince him that his soil is not' adapted to the growth of Oregon ' Grape, I will state that when I located here I caused all the Ore gon Grape to be removed from my land. This included a grove' of the mammoth variety, known to botanical students as the gi ganticus preyaricus profanicus. Yesterday while walking where the dwarf variety formerly grew 1 I saw a little sprout come out of I the ground and it seemed to hes itate as to which direction to take, but presently decided to start in a southeastly uour.se. This morning I went to see what progress it was making and , found it to be more than nine feet in length. i I have never been accused of , exaggerating, at any rate !v' any person who lived to boast of, being guilty of such a rash act, i but should I prove to be in the wrong (which I never vet have been) will gladly confess. So, j if Mr. Thos. H. Brown, or Mr. I lhos. II. Anybodyelse will call tomorrow, measure an Oregon grape growing near my mansion. and will state that it Is fewer than eighteen feet, I will be glad to acknowledge that he has lied. S. H. Orr.
