has sued the Southern Pacific
for Sh,IXX) damages alleged to
have been sustained through the
death of Pudrey, at the section
house near Mayo, at the 4i-mile
post, on the P. Ii. & N., January
."i rJlv. Pudrey was track
walker for the company, and
housed in the section house.
frees were surrounding the house
and during one of the big storms
a four-foot tree fell across the
house, killing Pudrey. The
w idow alleges that the company
was negligent in not providing
better and safer quarters for
Pudrev, and she also says that a
day or so before men had blasted
trees, loosening the ground so
that they were more likely to
fall. W. C. Bristol is the at
torney, and his complaint covers
a dozen well tilled pages with a
geological dissertation. William

The Wickizer house, in iXmgh
ty's sub-division, on Past Base
line, caught fire Monday morn
ing. the blaze starting from a
defective thie. in the upper story
Chris. Lystrop. a neighbor, first
saw the blaze, and called to Peter
Johnson, w ho alarmed the com
munitv. The tire department
responded to an alarm, but w hen
they arrived found that the hose
was too short. Water was useii
by Wendell Davis and L M. Ky
der, and the fire was under con
trol bv the time the chemical
was put in action. The arrival
of that part of the department
saved the day, as the water sup
ply had to tie brought from a
neighboring house, the pump at
the Wickizer home being broken.
The damage will not amount to
over ten or twelve dollars. Bar
ring the shortage of hose the
run of the department was a
success, as the apparatus was
on the ground in short order,
due to the new alarm system.
